Taylor had spent the evening at home by herself with her cats, enjoying the peace of her own home. She'd been lounging on the couch when she heard her phone buzz. She grabs her phone and feels her heart rate quicken when she sees it's from Joe. She feels herself getting giddy.
J - What are you up to tonight?"
God it's crazy, they're not really officially anything but Taylor knows she likes him. She enjoys being in his presence and spending time with him.
T - Literally nothing. You?
Their meeting had been a coincidence, and their friendship evolving into this weird friends with benefits thing had been a total accident.
J - Same. Can I come over?
Taylor feels her heart skip a beat. She has no idea where she wants to go with Joe. She has no idea if he even actually likes her in that way. All she knows is they're such good friends at the moment and are just enjoying a bit of fun.
T - Sure, but be warned. My apartment is a mess.
Taylor looks down at herself, she's just in her pyjamas but honestly she doesn't care. She figures he can either take her as she is or move on, besides, she doesn't feel self conscious around Joe. She's not sure why, he's just...different, in the best way possible.
J - I don't care about that! See you soon.
Taylor feels a goofy smile form on her face when she reads his reply before tossing her phone next to her and resuming petting Olivia and thinking about Joe. She's never quite had a relationship like this before but she's enjoying it nonetheless.
-------------------
She hears a knock on her front door and she hops up quickly to get it, realising she has fuzzy slippers on her feet. When she opens the door, Joe has a huge grin on his face and she smiles back at him, stepping aside quickly to let him in and shutting the door behind him.
"Hey! How was your day?" She asks him as they both move further into her apartment. This was a fairly common occurrence so he had no problems making himself at home.
"Busy, tiring. I'm glad to be here though. You?" They both sit down on the couch, looking at each other.
"Not much for me to do at the moment so it was pretty boring." Taylor says, a hint of sadness hidden behind her words. Her entire world had come crashing down around her in the past few weeks, the only good thing in her life was this 'friendship' with Joe.
"Well, now you have me to brighten up your day!" Joe teases and Taylor can't help but laugh at him.
"Of course, how could I forget? You're the sunshine of anyone's day!" Taylor goes into the kitchen before bringing out a bottle of wine, opening it and bringing it over to the couch with two glasses.
They spend a couple of hours just talking about random stuff, getting slightly drunk off of the wine they'd been consistently consuming throughout the evening. Suddenly, Joe leans his face towards Taylor's, kissing her fiercely. She moves her body so that she's straddling Joe's lap. She feels Joe's hand slip underneath her shirt as he pulls it quickly over her head before the two resume kissing. Things are getting heated very quickly and Taylor yanks Joe's shirt off his head. The both of them use their hands to explore the others body. Taylor leans back for a second, breathing heavily.
"Maybe..." Joe captures her lips again and she's almost ready to just do whatever he wants but she quickly pulls back again
"Maybe we should take this upstairs?" Joe nods, quickly standing up, picking her up with him and she squeals.
"Joe! I can walk!" Joe laughs at her as he begins walking up the stairs,
"What? I can't be chivalrous?" Taylor giggles,
"I have a pretty good feeling that's NOT why you're carrying me upstairs right now." Joe reaches Taylor's bedroom and kicks the door shut behind him, placing her on the bed before attacking her lips again, moving his mouth down her neck.
They spend the rest of the evening enjoying the feeling of being wrapped around one another, neither of them caring about anything else.
-------------------------
Taylor wakes up to the sound of footsteps echoing down the staircase. The door is open a crack and she looks at her illuminated clock on her nightstand. 2:00am. Taylor quickly gets up, tugging a shirt over her body and some underwear before walking to her stairs.
"What are you doing?" She asks Joe sleepily, rubbing her eyes.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. I think I fell asleep, I'm just heading back to my hotel." He says softly, looking up at her from the middle of the staircase.
"It's late, you don't have to go. Just come back to bed." Taylor's not quite sure where the request is coming from. She's never asked him to stay the night before, it'd never been a part of their nights together. She knows she's growing feelings for him but she's almost certain that he just sees her as a friend that he can have sex with sometimes. Who the hell could ever like her in that way? She's Taylor Swift. Anyone would be insane to jump into her life.
"I don't want to bother you." He murmurs, slowly making his way close to her. Taylor smiles sleepily and ruffles his hair with her hand.
"It's no bother, honestly." She sees Joe hesitate and she kicks herself, why would she ask that? It's just going to make things weird.
"You don't have to. Just thought I'd offer because it's so late..." Joe smiles, grabbing her hand gently,
"Only if you're sure?" Taylor nods, leading him back up the stairs and into her bedroom. Joe strips back down to his boxers and crawls under the covers with her. He seems to instinctively wrap his arm around her and she rests her head on his chest. This isn't something friends do, she reminds herself. She knows it's probably wrong to let him sleep here overnight, it'll probably make things weird in the morning. Maybe he'll never want to see her again. She isn't sure. But what she does notice is how warm his body is, how comforting it is to be pressed up against him as she drifts off to sleep, much faster than she ever would alone. In that moment, she knew. She's falling for Joe Alwyn. And there's nothing she can do about it.
