Taylor watches Joe move throughout their apartment, doing his last minute packing and making sure he has everything. She can't help but feel a pang in her chest that he's going on a trip. She knew this time would come at some point, they'd had the luxury of the past few months stuck here together. Joe had made the sacrifice to stay in the states with her when he could've gone home to stay with his family. Taylor knows Joe is sad to part from her too but she also knows that he's looking forward to being able to work again, she's been able to do her job from home but he hasn't.
After a few minutes of Joe running back and forth, he comes and sits beside her. Taylor throws her legs across his lap and wraps her arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder. She feels his arms wrap around her body, pulling her close to him.
"When do you need to leave?" She asks quietly,
"About ten minutes." A silence falls over the two of them, Joe gently rubbing small circles on her back. This time, him leaving is different. Not only is she going to miss him immensely, but she's also so worried about his safety. The last thing she wants is for him to catch COVID and get incredibly sick. Taylor sighs, nuzzling her face into his chest, tightening her arms around him. She feels him press a kiss on the top of her hair and tighten his arms for a moment before letting go slightly.
"I need to go now babe." He murmurs and Taylor looks up at him. She leans up, kissing him softly on the lips before throwing her arms fully around his neck, tightly hugging him.
"Please stay safe." She murmurs firmly so he knows exactly what she means.
"I will, I promise. I'll be back in no time." She never wants this hug to end but she knows it has to. Taylor walks Joe to the door and after one last hug and kiss he's out the door and into the car to the airport. Taylor sighs, moving back to the couch and sitting down. The house is silent again, but this time it isn't comfortable, it's just lonely. Obviously her and Joe have spent more time apart than the average couple and were fairly used to being separated but it still stung. Especially after the months they'd had together uninterrupted. She's really going to miss him, and she knows she'll spend the entire time worrying about him catching the virus.
-------------------------------------------
The next day Taylor wakes up to her phone ringing, she looks over and sees it's Joe before quickly answering.
"Hey babe!" He says enthusiastically into the phone.
"Morning." She yawns, trying to wake herself up fully.
"Sorry did I wake you?" She groans,
"Just a little but it's okay, I still love you." Joe laughs through the phone which makes Taylor smile. She's glad she can still do that thousands of miles away.
"Okay love, well I just wanted to let you know that I've landed and am heading to the hotel now." Taylor feels a pang in her chest again, her worry for him taking over again.
"Okay, how was your flight?" She asks softly
"Long, boring but we made it so it's okay. Look, I've got to run but have a good day!" A small smile plays on Taylor's face.
"Stay safe, I love you!"
"Love you too." The call disconnects and Taylor drops her phone onto the best. Please let him stay safe.
--------------------------------
A few days later and Taylor knows Joe is on his plane back to her. So far, he's been completely safe. No COVID has been caught but he'll be tested once he reaches LA so they'll know then for sure. Taylor's spent each day he's been gone worrying about him, missing him, distracting herself from him and the two of them talking on the phone whenever they had the chance. She's so grateful he'll be back in her arms soon. It's a long flight, there's still another 15 hours to go so Taylor decides to go to sleep, knowing that when she wakes up in the morning, it'll be so close for his arrival.
--------------------------------
After she woke up, Taylor spent the few hours she had left to wait for him running around cleaning the house. Her excitement built when she received his text that he'd landed and was COVID free. Her cats had seemed to pick up on her excitement because they'd been watching her run around all morning.
Finally, after what felt like forever, Taylor heard the lock click on their front door. Joe walked through with all his luggage and she practically bolted towards him, throwing her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist. He caught her easily and they held each other close, Joe rocking them gently. Suddenly, all of Taylor's worries melted away. He was back, safe and with her. The past few days had been hell for her mentally but none of that matters now because he's back.
"God I love you." She whispers, wanting to express how she's feeling right now.
"I love you too, I'm safe. I promise." Joe murmurs into her ear and immediately she knows he gets it. Despite her not having really said anything, he knows she was worried about him. In the same way he would worry about her if she was off doing something like that. The two of them spent the rest of their day curled up on the couch together, Joe slept a bit after his long flight but it didn't matter if they talked or not, they just wanted to be close to each other again. Being able to run her hands through his hair was something that Taylor appreciates more than anyone would ever really know. They're so in love and she never wants it to change.

Idk this is a random idea that came to me when I woke up, it's kind of bad. I probably could've done it better but oh well, it is what it is!
