Joe had left two weeks ago to begin shooting his new movie. It's been tough on Taylor, their separation. She's been missing him like crazy. The further along their relationship progresses, the harder it is to part from him. This time, she's been struggling to sleep without him, oftentimes reaching out for him in the middle of the night and feeling panicked when she can't find him. She's exhausted, but the only thing getting her through is the fact that he is coming back. She reminds herself every day that this is temporary, he'll be back. She's realised just how dependent she's become on having him in her life, just the simple things that they both did in the life they now share. She loves him so much, them being separated only proves to highlight that. The couple have spend most of their free time talking, via FaceTime or text. But even that has been few and far between, the time differences and Joe's hectic call times don't make for an easily align-able schedule.
Today, Taylor finds herself at a loss for something to do. It's her first day off in ages, and usually this meant she could spend some quality time with her boyfriend, but he's not around. Her friends are all out of town, so she's bored. She's resigned herself to sitting on the couch, half paying attention to the Law and Order episode playing on the TV screen. She's learnt, over the years, how to filter out the bad from the good on social media so she's aimlessly scrolling through Tumblr, occasionally liking or commenting on a fans post. It's something she doesn't really do anymore, but it makes her happy to see them get so excited when she interacts with them, bringing a small amount of joy to her dull day. It's not as if she needs her boyfriend to survive, in fact she's a perfectly capable, independent woman. It's just been two weeks, so she's missing him. Missing their proximity, the late-night conversations that could be deep, or even about nothing at all. She knows he feels the same way, both exchanging hushed 'I miss you's' whenever they get the opportunity to talk.
By the time the evening rolls around, Taylor realises she's hardly moved all day. It's been nice to just stop and do nothing for a moment, she'd been so on-the-go for months now. She's tempted to just order something for dinner, but decides cooking may alleviate her blue mood. So Taylor gets up, flicking on her favourite playlist to boost her mood before rummaging through the fridge and the pantry. There isn't much in the house, so she settles on spaghetti. The music begins to liven up her mood as she gets on with cooking, dancing weirdly - she's sure if anyone walked in they'd look at her funny. Ten minutes into her party for one, the music cuts off as her phone begins ringing. She looks at the caller ID and seeing it's Joe, she hastily answers, desperate to hear his voice and know how he's doing.
"Hi love." Joe's voice filters through the phone, making her heart clench, a small smile gracing her lips. She misses him so much.
"Hey! How was your day?" She asks enthusiastically, thankful for these phone calls. She hears him sigh,
"Long, I'm glad I'm finished in a week. I miss you." He murmurs, Taylor can feel tears prick in her eyes but she forces herself to shut her feelings down, she wants their limited conversations to be happy and lighthearted. They've had long phone calls that have been emotional, one of them having had a particularly bad day, but she knows this isn't the time for that.
"Yeah, I miss you too. You'll be back here before you know it." Her voice is soft, she's doing her best to sound positive, for his sake. But the truth is, more than anything, she wishes he was here with her right now. She knows he's feeling the same, but unfortunately, this is just how it is with them, typically they have incredibly busy schedules, so being separated isn't exactly new to them.
"What have you been up to today?" Joe asks her
"Oh not a whole lot, it's been a quiet day. Pretty much just lay around with the cats, I saw some funny stuff on Tumblr, I'll have to show you later." She says softly down the line.
