Taylor's phone rings, when she sees that it's Abigail, she answers immediately.
"Hey, how you doing?" She asks brightly, excited to speak to her friend. But once Taylor hears Abigail sniffling on the other end, she immediately switches into mom-friend mode.
"Babes, what's wrong? Are you sick or sad?" She asks gently
"T, Matt and I decided to get a divorce." Her friend sobs which just breaks Taylor's heart. She knew they'd be having issues, Abigail had called her a few times to vent over it all. It just seemed that they weren't having their happy ending. And now...this. They'd just seemed so perfect together and seeing her friend so distraught about the whole thing just makes Taylor want to go give her the biggest hug in the world. But obviously she can't right now considering they're in a global pandemic.
"Holy shit Abi, I'm so so sorry. What do you need?" She tries to speak delicately, wanting to be there for Abigail while not prying.
"I just need to be distracted for a while...I wish I could see you but of course we're in a global fucking pandemic!" Taylor can hear the distress in her friend and she wants nothing more than to be able to fix this, but she knows she can't, all she can do it be there for her.
"I would be there in a heartbeat if I could, you know that. I'm so so sorry that I can't...do you want to talk about it at all?"
"Not really, not yet anyway, I just wanted to hear your voice to be honest." Her and Abigail had been through pretty much everything together. They'd had each other at their best and worst moments and it was times like these where one just really needed the other and it sucks more than anything that they can't be in the same room right now for a tight hug, a glass of wine and some corny movie.
"Well I can give you that!" Taylor says lightly, smiling when she hears Abigail laugh softly.
"I appreciate it T. Look I gotta run now and sort some stuff out, but can I call you if I need to talk?"
"Of course! Literally anytime, day or night. Just call me, I promise I'll be here for you. For anything."
"Thank you so much, I love you."
"Love you too Abi, talk soon!" The call disconnects and Taylor sighs, her mind spiralling slightly. The two of them had honestly seemed so perfect and in love. But maybe sometimes that just isn't enough and that thought has always scared her. With one last sigh, Taylor wanders downstairs to tell Joe about what she'd just learnt. She sees him sitting on the couch watching some TV show he's been super invested in recently. She sits down next to him and he instinctively wraps an arm around her, his eyes not leaving the screen.
"So um, Abigail called." She starts hesitantly,
"Oh yeah? How's she doing?" Joe only seems to be half invested in their current conversation which bothers Taylor slightly but she leaves it alone, knowing that he's never done this before.
"Her and Matt are getting a divorce." Joe turns his head to finally look at her, she sees something flash through his eyes that she can't quite place but all he says is,
"Oh no, that's terrible. They seemed so good together! Give Abigail my best for me when you talk to her next." Before turning his eyes back to the screen. Taylor gives up attempting any further conversation. Instead she removes his arm from around her and goes back upstairs, needing to vent these feelings she has somewhere. And that somewhere is going to be her music. She sits down at the piano and feels all these words flowing out of her. It's all about how someone can make you the happiest you've ever been, and then suddenly something changes and they end up crushing your soul instead but you realise that one day, you'll find happiness after that person and realise that yes, they made you happy, but you can find that again within yourself.
