Ain't That The Worst Thing You've Ever Heard?

Taylor and Joe are sitting silently in the back of her car, they're on their way to go meet some of her friends in a bar. Their relationship is still fairly new so they're taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the public don't find out just yet. Tonight this includes renting out a private room in the back of a bar and entering through an alley way. Joe's gently holding her hand, stroking the back of it gently with his thumb - it's almost as if he can sense her unease. She's just staring out of the window, watching the streets fly by and trying to keep her worries in check. Every time they go out - no matter the precautions - she worries about people finding out. It's the last thing she wants right now because she doesn't want him to leave her, she doesn't want to get hurt, she's falling for him - hard, and she's come to need him in her life. She doesn't want the public to ruin this awfully fragile situation.

As the car pulls up to the bar, the couple tug their hoods over their heads, quickly running the five steps from the car through the door. Taylor feels her heart beating erratically in her chest, worrying that someone could be walking past in the wrong moment and catch them. Once inside, she sucks in a deep, shaky breath, gripping Joe's hand once more. Selena's already inside waiting for them, excitedly waving them over as they get closer to the group. She introduces Joe to everyone, putting on a bright smile and forcing herself to fit the vibe of the room.

After a while she notices most of her friends are completely drunk, screaming embarrassing things at one another and laughing at the smallest things. It's fun she supposes, although she hasn't felt like much of a partier these past few months. Taylor's trying to pace herself - not wanting to look like a complete idiot amongst all of this. She finds herself chatting to Joe, his hand gently on her waist as she finds herself completely enamoured by him - not even caring that her other friends are here, people she hasn't seen in ages. But it's been like that with him for a while now, she's felt she only needs him. He's her best friend, not just her boyfriend. Suddenly she feels Selena loop her arm through hers.

"Sorry Joe, it's time for a girls chat." Selena winks at him, dragging Taylor away. Taylor smiles shyly as Selena sits her down and begins the interrogation.

"Soooo, how's it going with Joe?" Taylor tries to hide her growing smile, picking at her fingers.

"It's good." Selena raises her eyebrows

"That's all I get? Good?" Taylor shakes her head and laughs a little, looking down at her hands.

"Well it is at the moment. It's good. I just get so worried about what could happen, like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, waiting for him to hurt me deeply." She sighs, pushing her hair away from her face. "But he hasn't, it's all just built up in my head. I'm insecure but I can't really help it right now." She shrugs, picking at her fingernails.

"Taylor, I think you might be okay with him. I mean, he seems genuine to me. He seems to really care about you." Taylor nods, looking up at Selena.

"He does, I know that. I just really struggle to tell him how I'm feeling, like he'll reject me or something. I also know once the world gets wind of this things will change, he'll realise how messed up my life is. That this is my reality but it doesn't have to be his." Selena pulls her into a quick hug before gripping her arms, looking her dead in the eye.

"Do you love him?" It's such a loaded question, one Taylor is shocked to hear. It's something she's been mulling over for a while on sleepless nights. She knows she's falling for him, she thinks she might be in love with him but she doesn't want to admit it. Being in love is a terrifying thought to her, it makes it so much easier to get hurt.

"I-I can't." She says softly, letting a sigh escape her lips.

"What do you mean?" Selena's brow furrows, clearly confused.
