Neither Joe, nor Taylor are having a good night. There's a lot of screaming back and forth,  neither really remember how the fight got so heated. Taylor's unable to stop, she feels herself overcome with anger and she's too far gone to see reason. They'd flown to Nashville to see her family and are staying in her house that she'd bought so many years ago - it had been a fun trip down memory lane for her, well she's not having much fun now. Rain is pelting down just outside the window, the thunder crackling in the distance matches the furious energy in Taylor's living room.

"Taylor! I swear to god, just stop! You don't even know what you're talking about!" Joe yells at her in frustration. He doesn't yell very often - even when she is. That's how she knows this has probably gone too far.

"Yes I fucking do Joe, I'm well aware of what I'm talking about! Get off your god damn high horse and stop accusing me of being dramatic!" Taylor screams back at him, nothing about her is rational. Their breathing is heavy from the screaming match.

"Oh for fucks sake, you ARE being dramatic!! And you're WRONG! You accused me of not loving you again, which you know damn well isn't the fucking case!" Joe paces angrily back and forth, stopping occasionally to face her.

"Well sometimes it's hard to tell! We're on a fucking holiday and all you've been doing is answering your stupid emails! I just wanted to spend some time with you!" She screams - knowing full well she's being unfair, but is way past the point of caring.

"Fuck Taylor! That's not fucking fair! You of all people should know how demanding work can be sometimes! Picking a fight is not the way to spend time with me by the way." Taylor looks at him incredulously

"I didn't pick a fight! I made a comment and you got pissed! Don't fucking blame me for this!" Joe stops pacing, the fire in his eyes is unmistakable and it somehow makes her even angrier.

"You've got to be shitting me." He throws his hands up in the air. "Taylor you made a snarky comment about missing me when I was right here!"

"Because you were WORKING!" She burst out. "You might as well not even be here with me! I just wanted to spend some time here alone with you because it's been god knows how long since we've been able to do that!" Taylor's heart is pounding in her chest, she's all worked up and can't figure out how to reign her anger in.

"That's not just my fault! We're both busy people Taylor, that's just the way it is and you fucking know that so stop getting so mad at me!" Joe's eyes are blazing now, she can see it. The two of them stop for a moment, just staring into each others eyes, breathing heavily. The tension is so thick between them that you could cut it with a knife.

"Yes we are busy people! But you could've at least made some effort today to spend time with me! Like damn, is that too much to fucking ask for?! It feels like you've stopped giving a fuck about me!" Joe groans, stomping his foot.

"Damn it Taylor if you're going to fucking be like this then why should I stay? I might as well just fucking leave." That shuts Taylor up faster than anything else ever could've. It's her biggest fear, why should he stay? She knows she's not worth it. She can see the regret flash throughJoe's eyes but she doesn't want to hear it, it's true and she knows it - she doesn't want him to make up some lie, pretending to not have meant it. So she runs out the back door, into the yard. The downpour of rain immediately soaks her through but she doesn't care - in fact, she welcomes it. At least the rain provides some distraction from what he's just said. All she wants to do it run - just get as far away from here as she can, but she can't because leaving the property is dangerous for her. She curses herself in this moment for not having chosen a normal life. She feels hot tears sliding down her face, is happy no one can differentiate her tears from the rain.
