They'd decided this year would be low key, just a simple dinner at home by candlelight. No presents, just the two of them. Alone and together. It had been a busy year for the both of them - her recording all of her old music, him filming and auditioning with her tagging along where she could. They both wanted their anniversary to be a break from the hectic nature of their lives. They want to enjoy one another, and celebrate that fact that it's been five years - an insurmountable milestone Taylor never thought she'd be able to achieve. But here they are.
Taylor wakes, letting out a gently sigh and stretching out her limbs. She appreciates the comfort of her own bed, being able to wake up and know that you're home. Travelling is fun, but there's nothing quite like your own bed. And what's even better, is the feeling of his arm wrapped around her waist. She's content in this moment, shuffles herself closer into his body, entwines her fingers with the ones rested on her hip. He's still asleep, she can feel his even breath on her neck. She takes this time to just stare out of the window, up at the sky. The sun is shining today, spilling over the couple as they lay in bed together. Taylor finds herself reminiscing on the past five years, on how far the two of them have come. They'd gone from Taylor pushing Joe away, determined to not ruin his life by dragging him into her crazy world, to her having no clue what she'd do without him. Their lives are so tightly intertwined, so woven together that she knows it'd be practically impossible to detangle herself from him. It's not her life anymore, it's theirs.
She doesn't lie there for very long before she feels his grip around her tighten, feels his face nuzzle into her neck. Taylor grips onto his arm, enjoying his proximity.
"Morning love" Joe mumbles, the sleepiness evident in his voice. She smiles, overwhelmed by love in this moment.
"Happy anniversary baby." She murmurs, slowly turning around to face him. She watches his face light up with a sleepy smile as he adjusts to being awake. She gently runs her fingers through his hair, her chest feeling all fluttery.
"I can't believe it's been five years." He says gently before leaning closer to kiss her. She smiles into his lips,
"I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you." She whispers into his ear before snuggling into his chest. She feels his lips on her head, his arms drawing her even closer. This. This is where she always wants to be. Just the two of them, living in the moment with one another.
They remain cuddled up under the warm duvet for another while before they stumble downstairs to the kitchen. She sits down at the kitchen counter, watches lovingly as her boyfriend makes them coffee. Joe slides her the steaming drink and Taylor cradles it in her hands, melts into his body when he sits down next to her.
"I love you." She murmurs, quietly sipping her coffee. She feels Joe's arm wrapped around her waist. It's one of those days where they can't get enough of each other, celebrating their love is so important to the both of them - that's one thing that's only grown over the years. She may be less careless around him now, happily being gross and not bothering to dress up for him. But the way she loves him grows every single day they're together.
"I love you too Tay." He presses a kiss to her head, letting silence fall over the two of them. They just sit there together, quietly drinking their coffees and enjoying their proximity. She occasionally feels him sink his head to press his lips in her hair, finds herself squeezing his hand when he does.
When they both feel more awake, Joe places his mug down - wrapping both arms around Taylor, pulling her body onto his lap.
"So love, I know you said no big plans today. But what do you want to do?" The both of them had been so busy, Taylor really just wanted to relax today. It's not like either of them really had any time to plan something huge. She looks up at him, enamoured with the simplicity of how he looks in the mornings. The fluffy blonde hair that's still ruffled from sleeping, his blue eyes. She's just completely in love with him. His hand reaches up to tuck her hair behind her ear while she formulates her response.
