Taylor's legs are lazily thrown over Joe's lap, her back leaning against the arm of the soft - the two of them having opted for a quiet evening in. His thumb absentmindedly stroking her leg as they appreciate the silence of the evening. But of course, what evening could ever be truly uninterrupted in her life? None, obviously. Her phone buzzes next to her so she picks it up, expecting it to be something fun from her friends but unfortunately she notices Tree has forwarded her some article, telling her to 'read with caution'. Taylor rolls her eyes, flicking through the article - seeing her name mentioned in it before reading it thoroughly. Yet again, a man has decided to discredit her work as a writer. It fills her bones with fire, this is one of those things that pisses her off to no end. Who does he think he is saying she doesn't write her own songs?
She isn't thinking straight, of course she isn't. But she's thinking clearly enough to know what she wants to say. So she starts furiously typing, perfecting and re-typing her tweet.
"Love?" She hears Joe call out to her, she looks up from her phone to meet his eyes. "Why are you typing with such an aggressive look?" He laughs a little, clearly finding her antics amusing.
"No reason." She murmurs, dipping her head back down to her phone.
"Mmm, something tells me there is a reason actually." He tugs her a bit closer by her legs, she's practically sitting on his lap now. He softly kisses her cheek, "C'mon, what's got you so engrossed?" He asks softly, clearly in the mood to press.
"Just some idiot." She sighs, before going back to her phone. She's almost ready to hit tweet.
"Which idiot?" She just looks up at him, can almost feel the anger in her gaze before she lowers it again. "Taylor have you at least spoken to your publicist about whatever you're going to do?" He sounds a little worried now, but he needs to understand that she's more than capable of dealing with this on her own.
"Relax. I know what I'm doing." She doesn't even look up anymore, not until she's finished. And when she does, she can see Joe patiently waiting for her to talk. She just sighs, "Look, it's fine. I'm just responding to some idiot who claimed I don't write my own songs. It's really not a big deal and I don't need to involve Tree on this one." She looks down one more, hitting the blue tweet button and letting her thoughts loose upon the world of social media. She then slides her phone across the carpeted floor. "See? I'm not even going to look at the responses." Taylor winds her arms around his neck, gently pecking his lips.
"Look at you all mature and stuff!" He smiles and she giggles, resting her forehead against his. "So can I even look at this tweet or is that against the rules?"
"You can if you really want." She rests her head on his shoulder, watching as he opens twitter for the first time in months, reading her tweet.
"Wow, I would not want to be him that's for sure." He kisses her forehead gently "You amaze me, y'know that?" She blushes slightly, she doesn't typically seek public approval anymore - but what he thinks about her matters, it always will.
"Thank you." She murmurs, nuzzling her face into his neck - curling up closer to him. Any ounce of anger she'd had minutes ago is gone, the peace has returned.
"You don't have to prove yourself to anyone - you know that right?" She knows what he means. He doesn't want her to kill herself trying to prove one person wrong, as she had in the past. He'd seen the aftermath of her trying to do that and it hadn't been pretty.
"I know. I just wanted to call him out on it because it isn't fair. To me, or any other woman in the industry who is constantly questioned on the basis of credit, on her skill and talent purely because she's a woman - because no one can seem to believe that a young girl could hold such a talent. It's been criticism I've fought for years but I finally feel at a place in my career where I can loudly call stuff out like this and I can withstand it. That's all that tweet was - mixed with a smidge of anger obviously." She smiles at him, his fingers gently tucking her hair behind her ear.
"And you have every right to do so." He presses his lips to her head once more. "I'm proud of you." His hand winds around her waist, pulling her closer. She rests her head against his chest as she snuggles up with him - continuing their low-key evening. Just the two of them, in their own little bubble of not caring about anything in the outside world. Just their love, no interruptions.
