Taylor has the biggest grin on her face as she takes in the scene before her, both her and Joe's friends had come together to celebrate New Years Eve in her apartment and everyone just looks so happy. Drunk, dancing and happy. She's happy, can't quite believe it. The couple had decided together that they wanted to throw a party to celebrate their first New Years. She's been experiencing so many 'firsts' with him recently. Taylor has a beer in her hand, scanning the room for Joe, she spots him, quickly pushing through sweaty bodies, stumbling slightly due to her intoxicated state. Once she reaches him, Joe smiles at her - wrapping an arm around her waist. He holds her close, laughing at some joke his friend made. His touch burns in the best way possible, she isn't focused on anything else but him anymore.
"Dance with me Joe!" Taylor yells excitedly, grabbing his hands and moving to the beat. She sees him laugh at her but couldn't care less, enjoying this moment with him. His hands move to her hips as they both drunkenly dance, their bodies move in sync - almost poetically so. The couple get lost in their own little world, no care for anyone else in the room in this moment. All they care about is the other, the giddy feeling that goes along with the love they both share. As midnight approaches, Taylor realises they don't have drinks anymore. She gets close to Joe's ear so that he can hear her, pressing her body against his.
"I'm going to get a drink. Want anything?" She feels him lean in towards her ear, his warm breath on her neck sends shivers down her spine.
"I'll come with you." His lips kiss her neck once, leaving her feeling all gooey inside. She clings onto his hand as they make their way to the kitchen, Taylor unable to quite walk in a straight line. She pours herself some gin and watches Joe open himself a beer. She reaches her arms around his neck, kissing him as though they were teenagers again - drunk at some random party. But the best part about this is that they're not teenagers, they're adults and this party is part of them carving their life out together - the though makes Taylor feel warm and just...happy. Joe slings his arms around her shoulders, pressing another sloppy kiss to her lips before they both stumble back into the living room. Taylor hears someone yell
"One minute to midnight!!" Everyone cheers, she's excited. Most of 2016 had been hell, but something tells her 2017 will be the best one yet and can't wait for the fresh start. The room begins counting down from 10. Taylor has her eyes focused on Joe, gives him a drunk grin, his ocean blue eyes hypnotising her - him being here right now is really really special.
"5...4...3...2...1!!! Happy New Year!!!" They all scream, Taylor and Joe's lips meet, their first New Years kiss. It makes her feel so fluttery, so loved. Taylor's heart is doing flips and her whole body feels electrified. She deepens their kiss, his arms firmly around her back - squeezing her closer, practically lifting her off her feet. When they finally remember they're not alone, they pull back, grinning at each other.
"Happy New Year." She murmurs into his ear, can't get enough of him this evening.
"Happy New Year my love." He pulls her in for a tight hug, it conveys more than words ever could. For the first time in years, she feels like she's started the year right - with the person she loves, surrounded by both of their friends.
---------------------
It isn't until 3am that the last of their party guests have left. Taylor closes the door behind them, turning around to look at her boyfriend.
"That was fun!" He says, his eyes shining. Taylor feels her lips widen into a grin, something she seemed to not be able to stop doing tonight. She loves seeing him so happy, loves everything about him. It was her first time meeting some of his friends tonight, she's enjoying getting to see further into his world. Wants to learn everything about him.
