Paige’s POV

“Elaine, it’s really good to see you,” I greeted as she stepped into my office.

“Good to see you too, Paige. I came by to drop this off.” She handed me an envelope. “Logan said you two already discussed it.”

“He called this morning and explained everything. Thanks.” I opened it.

“So, how’s work? Is Kim giving you any trouble?” Elaine asked, raising an eyebrow. Talking about Kim made me tense—I hadn’t seen her lately.

“Not really,” I replied, cutting the topic short. I didn’t want to get into that.

“That’s surprising,” she said, but I stayed silent, hoping she got the hint. “Alright, I’ll let you get back to it.”

“Thanks, Elaine. Bye.”

Kim’s POV

I knocked on Logan’s study door. Christine said he’d be working from home today.

“Come in,” he called.

I entered, and he smiled when he saw me. “Kimberly.”

“Hi,” I said, forcing a polite smile. “Can I sit?”

“Please.” He gestured to the chair in front of him.

I sat, gathering courage. “I want to ask you something.” He closed his laptop and nodded.

“Go ahead.”

“You said you wanted to change how you treat me and give this marriage a real chance. But why? What changed?”

“How do you mean?” he asked.

“Our marriage was a deal—you used me to take over your dad’s company, compensating for my father’s debt. So why now do you want this to be real?”

He smiled. “Because I like you.”

I blinked, surprised by the honesty.

“You like me?” I asked.

He nodded.

“But why? You meet beautiful women every day—way more beautiful than me.”

He chuckled. “They’re not like you. Your personality is different.”

I laughed softly. “Logan, my middle name is trouble. I like my freedom, and you’re so controlling. How will that work?”

“Since the deal, have I ever forced you to do something against your will?”

“Not yet. But it’s only a matter of time,” I warned.

“You should get to know me better. You might be surprised.” He smiled. “What are you doing tonight?”

“Why?”

“Because I want to take you out. Dinner. Seven o’clock.”

“Are you asking me out, or telling me you’re taking me out?” I teased.

“I’m asking. Will you go out with me?”

It felt good to hear him ask instead of demand.

“I’ll think about it,” I said, testing his sincerity.

“That’s fine. Just let me know.”

“You’re not upset?”

He laughed. “Not at all.”

I stood. “I’ll decide soon.”

Paige’s POV

After work, I headed to my car.

“Paige.” I turned to see Dominic, Kiara’s husband.

“Oh, hi.” We hugged briefly.

“Are you here with your wife?”

“No, just a meeting.”

“I’m glad I ran into you. Kiara and I want to properly thank you with dinner.”

“You don’t have to. I helped out of goodwill.”

“I know. But if I were paying someone to help my daughter, I’d want to do something in return. Please, accept our invitation.”

I sighed. “Alright. I’ll come.”

“Thanks. Tomorrow night?”

“Sure. Tomorrow night it is.”

“Drive safe.”

I nodded and walked away.

As I drove, I wondered if going was a good idea. I was fine with Kiara, but we weren’t close. A thank you was enough for me. I hadn’t helped for favors.

Maybe Hailey should come with me. She knows them better, and having her there might make things easier.

Later…

“Please say yes,” I said, pouting, even though she couldn’t see me.

“Fine. I’ll come with you. Your place or mine afterward?” Hailey asked on the phone.

“Yours—since we’ll use my car and I’ll have to drop you off for work the next day.”

“You’re not staying over?”

“Of course I am. I doubt I’ll want to drive home afterward.” I laughed.

“I can’t wait,” she squealed, making me smile.

Kim’s POV

“Can I come in?” I asked at Logan’s bedroom door.

He smiled and nodded.

I entered and sat down.

“Here to check if I’m mad you turned me down?” he teased.

I laughed. “I’ve known you three years—I can tell when you’re mad. You’re not. And I didn’t say no.”

“You never told me your decision, so I assumed.”

“I was still thinking.”

“Well?”

“It’s not seven yet. We can still go.”

His eyes brightened.

“Really?”

“I promise you’ll have fun. Thanks for saying yes.”

“We’ll see,” I said, standing. “I’m going to get ready.”
