Paige’s POV

“Stephen, I’m telling you—something’s going on between Kim and Logan. I don’t know what exactly, but why else would he treat her like that?”

Stephen gave me a skeptical look. “Why do you care all of a sudden? You couldn’t stand her just a few weeks ago.”

I rolled my eyes. “I was angry, not heartless.”

“Paige…” he said with a sigh. “One of the things I admire about you is how big your heart is. You always want to fix people. But sometimes, you have to let people deal with their own mess. Kim is not your problem anymore.”

“I know, but something just feels off. I saw it in her eyes—she’s not okay.”

“She’s Kimberly, Paige. Maybe she’s finally paying for all the crap she’s done to people.”

I let out a small laugh, trying to brush off the tension. “You’re so dramatic.”

“Look, I get it. But you’re treading dangerous ground here, especially considering your history with her… and Hailey.”

“I’m not trying to take her back,” I said quickly. “I just want to help her get out of a situation she clearly hates. That job is breaking her down.”

Stephen looked at me, his expression softening. “You still feel responsible for her, don’t you?”

I hesitated, then nodded. “She tried to talk to me that night we... you know. Slept together. She was crying—trying to tell me something important. But I was drunk, and I don’t even remember half of what she said. I only remember her looking so lost.”

He leaned back and groaned. “Oh, Paige…”

“I think I missed something huge, Stephen.”

“You’re not a savior,” he said gently. “Kim has to want help. And you helping her might hurt someone else.”

“You mean Hailey.”

He nodded. “You might be trying to do the right thing, but from her perspective, it might not look that way.”

I sighed and took a slow sip of my wine. “I’ll keep it lowkey. I’ll just ask around, maybe get someone to find out what’s going on between Kim and Logan.”

He narrowed his eyes at me, then shook his head with a small smirk. “You’re impossible. Fine. I’ll have someone dig discreetly. But only because I know you won’t rest until you get answers.”

I smiled. “You’re the best.”

“Obviously.” He laughed. “But I want something in return.”

I raised an eyebrow. “What?”

“Promise me this won’t blow up your relationship.”

“It won’t,” I said with more confidence than I felt. “Hailey trusts me.”

“Trust isn’t the issue. Secrets are. And Hailey isn’t the kind of woman you can keep in the dark for long.”

“Relax. I’m just trying to help an ex-colleague leave a toxic work environment.”

Stephen gave me a look. “That ‘ex-colleague’ used to be your world.”

“She’s not anymore,” I said firmly. “Besides, I have no intention of dragging this out. A little digging, that’s all.”

He didn’t look convinced, but he nodded. “Alright. Just… be careful, okay?”

“I will.”

Changing the subject, I asked, “So… are you coming to my party?”
