Nanala and Henry ended up living with Clint and Laura a bit longer than expected. Nanala's knee took a while to heal on it's own, since Laura didn't want Nanala using any magic to heal herself. She seemed to believe that the magic was bad for a person's body when it's used too often. Nanala only used magic to help with pain and heal minor cuts and scrapes.
It took almost nine months for Nanala's knee to completely heal. After she was healed, she went back to training with Natasha. She didn't stay at the tower long though. She stayed a two or three weeks at a time, but then she'd go back to Clint's for a week. The arrangement stayed that way, since Henry was going to stay living at Clint's for his safety. After everything that happened with Ultron, Nanala just believed Henry being away from the tower was a lot safer for him.
Nanala hadn't been cleared for any missions yet, since she was still having trouble doing too much with her knee. When she jumped around or put too much work on her knee, it would be sore, and sometimes she could barely walk after training with Natasha. Nanala believed she would have to depend on magic a bit more for a while, at least until the training no longer hurt her knee.
"We have a meeting we need to attend," Clint told Nanala, as he caught up with her limping form from the training room.
"Merlin, Clint, I don't want to stand that long. I landed on my knee off the mat earlier, and I kept working it after falling. I knew better, but I kept on," Nanala said, causing Clint to sigh.
"Go lay down, I'll catch you up when it's over," He replied, making her nod.
Nanala went to limp her way to her room, but when Clint see the grimace on her face as she walked, he sighed and wrapped her arm around his shoulders, as his one hand held her hand, and his other arm wrapped around her waist.
"You shouldn't be doing so much until you're able to do more on your knee. You're going to hurt it again, and you'll have to get surgery," Clint commented, causing Nanala to chuckle.
"Or I could just fix it with magic," She replied, but he shook his head.
"You know damn well Laura won't have that," He said, making her roll her eyes playfully.
"I know, but it's a thought," She answered, causing him to grin jokingly at her.
Nanala had laid down in bed as soon as Clint brought her to her room. Clint elevated her knee with a couple of pillows, before he kissed her forehead and left the room, closing the door behind him so she wouldn't be bothered.
About an hour later, Clint came back to Nanala's room with a sour look on his face. Nanala sat up and pulled herself to sit against her headboard, before she patted the bed to let Clint know she wanted him to sit down.
"What happened?" She asked, causing him to sigh.
"You remember what happened on Steve's mission?" He asked, making her nod.
"Yeah, what about it?" She asked, frowning a bit.
"The government has decided that we're all dangerous, apparently. Long story short, they said we either sign the Accords or we retire," He said, making her sigh.
"What's the Accords?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowing.
"It's almost like a contract between us and the government, saying they can use us for anything they want or need, and if we go against them in anyway, we'll be arrested," He replied, causing her to shake her head.
"What are you doing? Are you signing?" She asked, and he shook his head.
"No, I'm not signing. I'm retiring. I mean, I have the kids at home, and they're getting older. I figured it'd be easier than being the government's bitch," He said, causing her to smile.
"I think I'm going to follow in your footsteps," She commented, causing his eyebrows to furrow.
"Meaning?" He asked, and she smiled.
"I'm going to retire. Henry needs me, and besides, I've fought my whole life. I'm not even thirty yet, but it feels like I've been fighting for thirty years. Honestly, I feel retirement is in my best judgement," She said, causing him to smile.
"I'll support you," He replied, making her smile as well,"and so will Laura. You'll stay with us," He added, and she nodded.
"Let them know I'm not signing, please. I'll start getting my stuff together to leave," She commented, making him nod.
Clint left the room to let Tony know Nanala was retiring with him, and Nanala painfully stood up and began to pack her things. With a quick charm, Nanala was able to get rid of some of her pain, giving her more mobility. Once she was packed, she threw her bags on her bed, and waited for Clint to be ready as well.
About thirty minutes later, Clint came into the room to grab her things. Nanala followed him out of the room, and she locked eyes with Natasha on her way out.
"I'll keep up my training," Nanala commented,"No rest for the wicked and all that," She added, making Natasha smirk.
"Be careful," Natasha murmured, and the girl smiled at her.
Nanala and Clint headed back to Clint's home. Clint told her she didn't need to call the place his place, and he'd rather she call it her own home as well. She was practically his child, so he never wanted her to think that the farm wasn't her place as well.
Nanala would live with them as long as she wanted, and he and Laura would welcome her and her son with open arms at any time of day or night. They were part of the Barton family, and they would be for the rest of their lives. The girl was finally loved by a family, and her son was going to feel the same love she had always wanted to feel before...
