"We are sorry Dr. Magnus, we gave you enough time to think about it. We can't leave this baby in this hospital any longer" the officers said…
"I understand mam.. I am sorry… just give me a day … I will take this baby "Magnus said while looking at his little cauliflower who was looking at him and sucking her tongue against her tiny pale pink palate…
"You had 4 days … We gave you enough time already didn't we??What is your problem Dr. Bane" one of the lady officers asked him.. "You can adopt that baby just by signing those papers..(she showed the papers in her hand) if you do that you can take the baby to your custody the very next day… All we need is assurance from you"
Magnus took a minute of pause and continued
" Mom , I am married and I know the legal rules. I won't think this much if I am single… But now we both have to sign those papers … I need to discuss it with my husband… I can't sign those papers without consulting him… He might get upset.. I don't want my decision to ruin my life .." he said with a broken heart because that little one was already holding Magnus' little finger tight ..
"I understand… We don't know what's going on between you and your husband Dr. Bane but we can't let her be here anymore.. We have to take her" that officer said..
Magnus thought about it, they were right, that the baby can't stay in the hospital for too long… Being a new born she needs more love and care…more than just being in the hospital…
"okay!! Maybe .. Maybe you should take this baby and I will talk with my husband In meantime… I will come by this evening to finish the formalities and sign wherever you ask me to…… Could I take her then??" he asked, looking at deva and the officers , he looked sustained.... Deva felt helpless..
"Actually.. Lots of couples waiting to adopt a newborn, so when they grow up they won't feel that they won't feel the difference from their adoptive parents .. I mean they have a strong bond .. So we can't promise that magnus .. We are sorry.. And we have one couple already waiting in the office to take this little one with them" that officer said. Magnus bit the mucosa of his cheeks inside in order to hold his tears....it's like he is giving up on his own daughter… He doesn't know what to do, whether to sign those papers without Alec's opinion or to let her go once and for all... It's a different kind of feeling for magnus.. Like he can't think straight and he can't choose between the baby and his alec ..
Deva :magnus!! We have to do this.. Don't you think this little one needs a home..?needs a family ? (she asked while rubbing Magnus's shoulder) I know you love her and she does too (she said and looked at that little one whose eyes were half closed..) but it's time to make a decision.. (she put some sense on Magnus like he can't do it this way. Either he has to make a decision and talk to alec later or he has to let her go if he wants to choose alec's mental health over anything or anyone..)
He looked at his little cauliflower and leaned down and kissed her cheeks. She cooed gently in return.. That sound made Magnus' heart clenches.. He took his little finger from that tight little hold of that baby and let her go with a heavy heart..but that baby held magnus finger again but this time with a cute smile on her face… "looks like I don't deserve you!!" he said and kissed her one more time on the forehead..
The officers were ready to take that baby but they stopped when they saw another tall and dark person rushing in their way asking them to stop …
"Stop!!"
On seeing Alec, Deva tapped Magnus' shoulder and gestured to him to turn around..
"Where do I need to sign??" Alec asked the officers who looked at them confusingly.. Magnus looked at him surprisingly yet shockingly.. He saw Anna walking behind alec… he got that Alec knows everything by now…
