<Izuku POV>

Izuku's feet were aching, the unforgiving summer heat pounding over the back of his neck and shoulders through the thin material of his white t-shirt - a relic from much simpler, happier times.

Crickets and cicadas sang around them, accompanying the melancholic croon coming from the radio in his hands.

He looked over at his - everything.

Kacchan had always been important to him, but since the world, they'd known had ended, his whole existence in this new world only made sense when his childhood friend was close to him.

He was well aware that this kind of attachment wouldn't have been considered 'healthy' in their old world, but Izuku figured he got a pass since their planet and its inhabitants were likely to go extinct in three days.

Kacchan was walking ahead of him, his wide back damp with sweat, shoulders stiff in what Izuku immediately recognised as tiredness.

Izuku didn't call out to him to stop and rest, though.

Kacchan was on a mission, and Izuku didn't want to have another fight - and to put that look on his face again.

So, he kept walking, following his Kacchan as he'd always done.

Some things, at least, would never change, no matter how fucked up the world would get.

<Katsuki POV>

They were close.

The bunker where they could dream of a future together was close by, and Katsuki was going to find it.

After everything had gone to shit, when the last of their friends were still alive, they'd encountered a group of survivors that told them about the bunker just beyond the border.

Cross the border, walk for one mile and you'll see a water tower. The bunker is underneath.

Find us if you're still alive.

It was all because of Kirishima's natural charm, one of the boys had told him where to find salvation - probably because he'd wanted to get dicked down even after the world ended (and hey, Katsuki didn't judge, he could relate) - and of course Kirishima told them.

The plan had been for the remaining class 1-A to go there together.

Katsuki hoped the guy would accept them even if Kiri was dead.

He couldn't count on his charm, so he had a plethora of old world/new world valuables that he could offer in exchange for two seats in the bunker - or at least one.

He'd beg if he had to, offer everything he had in his bag for a chance of making sure Izuku would live and stay safe until the next time their Earth would be reborn.

The quiet shuffles behind him, quickened to a small sprint before he felt a hand slip into his.

He looked over at Izuku, still clutching at their radio, as he leaned his head against Katsuki's shoulder, for then turn his head to kiss his bicep.

Katsuki's heart stuttered.

He let himself stop for a moment to bury his nose in Izuku's curls and breathe deeply, closing his eyes.

I will save you. He vowed, silently.

<Izuku POV>

They reached the border in the early hours of the morning when the sun had just finished rising, sunlight streaming in through the crop of trees they'd stumbled upon.

Kacchan squeezed his hand, a renewed bounce in his step as he started walking towards the water tower, his expression opening up with a hope Izuku hadn't seen since their friends had died.
