I can't change it either.

3 days before returning to work

"I don't want to go." You huffed in annoyance, while Nines just stared at you blankly. "I'm not going."

"You are and you know you are." Nines responded as he clicked his tongue at you. He was right you were going, but you weren't ready to. "It is your job, that you care about." Nines continued as he tilted his head to the side at you.

"I just hate how formal he was..." You groaned, tilting your head back wishing that the room would just consume you.

"He has to be formal. It is a formal meeting to discuss you coming back to work, he was not doing it to be horrible or to scare you. It is because he has to do it by the books because-"

"Because I hit an offender. I know." You mumbled cutting off Nines, he didn't seem to mind that you had cut him off like that.

"You will be fine, I will be there the entire time and after we can go and get something sweet. Like pancakes." Nines reassured you a small smile adorning his lips, the smile that could calm you down in seconds.

"I would say great you're paying... but you don't have money so I guess I'm paying." You sighed before glancing at the time, you had an hour and a half before you had to be at the station.

"I promise when I start getting my own money, I will buy you anything that you want." Nines stated as he moved towards you and rested his chin on the top of your head.

"I want a new house." You joked while smacking your lips together.

"If that is what you truly desire then I shall buy you a new house." Nines said, you weren't sure if he was playing along, or if he genuinely thought you wanted a new house.

"Nines... I was joking." You mumbled into his jacket, as you pushed your face into it more.

"I am aware."

Time passed by way too fast for you, now you were pulling up to the station, your stomach slowly becoming a pit full of dread. Not only were you going to be having a meeting with Fowler, but it would be the first time you'd seen any of colleagues (besides Connor and Hank) for a while. Plus it would be the first time you'd seen Connor since the incident at Hanks house.

Hank had spoken to you and even popped in by himself to see you and Nines, but Connor hadn't seen you nor had he even messaged you.

He went silent.

Turning off the ignition you glanced over at Nines who surprisingly looked just as happy as you to be here, apart of you thought that Nines genuinely liked being at home and not working. He was staring straight ahead of himself, not moving at all.

"You ready?" You called out to him as his head snapped in your direction, you had pulled him from his own thoughts.

"Yes of course, this is not for me. It is for you." Nines muttered, as he raised a cautious eyebrow at you, "if anything I should be asking if you are ready?"

"No." You responded, blandly.

You weren't ready, you were scared that you'd be given desk duty, or be pulled from the case completely. Meaning you couldn't even fight for the ones who were killed by that bitch. You also didn't want to be the reason Nines was pulled from the case either.

"It is okay, I understand. I will not say everything will be okay, because I do not know if everything will be okay. All I can assure you of is that I will be there if you need me." Nines told you, as usual he was as honest as ever, it was one of the qualities you respected the most.

He never lied to you.

Never. (Unless you count him hiding his deviancy from you, then he'd lied once)
