It's just a question

That afternoon

It was once again getting to the time where Nines had to leave you, it was only the second day of this. Yet it had felt like a thousand times already.

You were going to be left to go through the evidence you'd collected this morning with Nines, you had to go through all of the names collected that had criminal records. Apparently the man had made friends with quite a few criminals over the years.

Nines was currently sat next to you, casually listening to Hank and Connor discuss the plan for the afternoon. You could see in his eyes that he was bored of their conversation already. You nudged his leg with your foot making his bright blue eyes lock onto you, you gave him a gentle smile.

He of course returned a quick one to you.

"Y/N, still really sorry we've gotta leave you." Hank apologised as you shook your head at him.

"Don't apologise, it's cool. Fowler said I need to work on my testimony soon... and I need to prepare for questions that could be thrown my way." You told Hank, who nodded his head in understanding.

"Alright, well come on Blue eyes." Hank said to Nines who looked at you before nodding his head once.

"Yes, Lieutenant. I shall come and make you a drink in an hour or so, Y/N." Nines informed you as he stood from his chair and adjusted his suit jacket.

"Sounds perfect to me." You replied as you then looked down at the evidence in front of yourself.

You heard Nines' chair get tucked in, you kept your eyes down for a few moments before looking up to see them all walking away, of course Nines glanced behind himself and gave you a sad look.

You returned it.

Now you just had to count down until it was time to go home.

Nines P.O.V

Once again I had to leave Y/N's side, I hated it.

I could tell she was sad, she made sure to keep her eyes down the entire time we were leaving.

I just wanted to get to the trial as quickly as possible, so this could be over.

I wanted to go back to how it used to be, solving crimes with her, chasing bad guys.

Seeing her attempting to keep up with me.

Protecting her, like I always had been.

Even when I was just a machine, my task was to keep my partner safe.

"Is Y/N okay, Blue eyes?" Hank called out to me as I raised my head higher to look at him.

"No. She is not, I know she does not like being split from any of us. She feels useless and she feels as if the partnership she has with us all will fade." I admitted to the Lieutenant, whose eyes widened in shock at me.

"She told you that?" He questioned as I cursed myself inside my head, why did I tell him that?

"Not exactly no, it is a conclusion that I came to when we were speaking last night." I explained to Hank who sighed, I could tell that he hated being split from Y/N as well.

Hank treated Y/N a lot like a man treats a daughter, he saw her as a daughter he never had.

With Y/N's lack of family I always assumed she saw him as a father figure also.

"You don't even have emotions and you can tell that she feels like crap."

"To put it bluntly, yes." I responded as he shook his head and continued with what he was doing, RK800 had been awfully silent.
