Abbie
2 months later"I'm going to go get you some more ice. Do you want anything else?" Melissa coos, stroking my hair out of my face. "I'm okay. Thank you again for flying out here." She offers a warm smile, cupping my cheek. "Anything for you. We miss you in Beacon Hills. So it was no brainer when you called. I'll be right back, okay?" I nod, watching her leave.
All the air is sucked out of the room as the door clicks shut behind her, leaving the three of us alone. We've barely spoken a word since my water broke this morning. Since then, Melissa, Avery and Rafe have been keeping the conversation going but now they're all gone.
Avery and Rafe went to get lunch and check on the girls, Melissa has been running around getting everything in order and fetching me ice. I'm two seconds away from tying her to the chair beside my bed.
"Did you two ever decide on a name? Last I heard, you still hated the name Charlotte and Damon vetoed Asher." Derek looks between us.
"That's because Asher sounds like an asshole."
"Asher is modern and cute. Charlotte is one step away from her being called Lottie." I cringe at the nickname. Why would anyone call someone that?
"Charlotte is a classic. I figured you would like a classic."
"Are you calling me old?" Damon rolls his eyes, before jutting his chin towards Derek. "What about you two? And I'm going to ask again, why was Avery ever on the table?" I glare at him. "Because she's my best friend and it's a cute name."
"For Satan." Damon grumbles and Derek nods in agreement. Sighing, Derek shakes his head. "We have a boy name picked out, but we're still in negotiations about the girl."
"Avery Kate would be a great name." I double down on my argument. It's been the only girl name I would entertain with Derek. Damon had a longer list than mine of girl names.
"Too close to Katherine. Do you really want to name her after two evil slut vampires?" I roll my eyes. "Well neither of us are any closer to picking any names. We have to pick something."
"What about going back to our original girl name?" I shake my head, looking at Derek. "Bailey Hale just doesn't feel right."
"Wait.. you suggested Bailey for ours." I turn to look at Damon. At this rate, I'll have whiplash by the end of the day. "Bailey Salvatore sounds cute."
"Wait.. is that what we're doing? Mikaelson-Hale and Mikaelson-Salvatore?" We all share a look, before I huff and shrug. "I don't know. Haidyn is already a Hale and it's still technically my last name.. but it feels weird naming one of the twins something different."
"So what do you want to do?" I look at Damon and then to Derek and shrug. "I don't know. Mikaelson-Hale-Salvatore is borderline child abuse. It's not fair to Damon to stick with Mikaelson-Hale and it's not fair to Derek to go with Mikaelson-Salvatore." Tears well up in my eyes, my head throbbing from all the back and forth. There is no easy answer and it doesn't help that we don't have answers on anything else.
"How about we discuss what happens after this?" Derek suggests and my stomach drops. It's been two months since we got the DNA results back and I've been waiting for this conversation. Honestly, I've been preparing to raise four kids on my own, before putting them on a plane and it being just Hope and I. I don't like the idea, but I know it's at least Derek's plan.
"Stefan's cool with moving down here until we figure something out. He should already be on his way with our stuff now." Damon checks his phone.
"Wait.. you're moving down here?" Why am I just now finding this out? Shouldn't I have been told he was making a huge decision like this?
