Avery
2 weeks later

Slapping the stack of papers down on the counter, I look at the two who have made my life a living hell these last two weeks. Abbie has been a wreck since we came back home and today has been even worse.

Derek reaches for the stack, so I quickly smack his hand away and return the glare he gives me. "This isn't a game, Avery. I want answers." He reaches again and I smack it away again. "I know this isn't a game. I'll give you the results when I'm ready."

"Why are you even here? This doesn't concern you." I turn my gaze to Damon. "Abbie is currently at my house eating her weight in ice cream and pickles, crying to Rafe about everything under the sun. I wouldn't dare step foot in that house right now and I definitely wouldn't leave you two alone to read these. You'd kill each other."

"So you know what they say. You know Haidyn is his." Damon jerks back. "Wait.. what?! Haidyn is not mine. Was I tested for that?"

I roll my eyes. "You both were tested for all three kids and no I haven't seen the results. I don't have to, I know Abbie isn't lying about this."

"I thought the same thing but here we are." I glare at Derek. "You know what, before we do this, let me get one thing clear." They both give me their undivided attention but they don't look happy about it.

"Abbie loves you both. Whether she's admitted to that or not, it's true. You both hold significant meaning in her life and the fact you're both too dumb to realize that is astounding."

I turn to Damon. "The two of you share this love story that Abbie had dreamed about her whole life. Love letters and a love so great, it didn't matter how far apart you were. You were her everything and I know she would've said yes to you had her family not been an issue."

I turn to Derek. "And you, you came into her life when she least expected it. You met, hooked up and never crossed paths again. She got pregnant and instead of running scared like you probably should've, you stayed and raised Haidyn. You're a damn good dad and you've been there for Abbie when most people would've left the second they realized who she was. Y'all may not have the history, but the life you two built is one most would kill for in our world. An Alpha and Original Tribrid, you're a powerhouse and the things you two could've accomplished would've been unmatched."

Looking between the both of them, I let it all off my chest. "So yeah, I get why you two hate each other and why this.." I motion to the stack of papers. "Feels like a betrayal.. but both of you could have something good with Abbie and if you're willing to let that go over this, then maybe I'm wrong. Maybe neither of you were meant to be a part of her life."

"You're not going to manipulate us into forgiving her." Damon states. I smile at him, planting my hands on the counter. "I'm not manipulating anyone. I don't have to. You know it, dumbass over there knows it and I know it. Abbie may have royally fucked up, but no matter what these results say, you both became a part of her life before kids were involved. Remember that the next time you swear you hate her and will never speak to her again."

"Open the damn envelope."

"Well now she's going to take even longer to open it, dumbass." Damon sasses. Derek glares at him, but focuses back on me when I pick up the first envelope.

"This is for Haidyn." I tear across the top, pulling out the paper and opening it. Quickly reading over the information, I smile. "Congrats, Hale. It's a girl."

His shoulders relax, and so does Damon's. I bite back a laugh, picking up the next envelope. They both tense again, making me tense. I really do trust Abbie knew what she was talking about, but what if she was wrong?
