Sleepily, Kageyama eats his lunch, trying to remember anything he learned in class. But, there's nothing. His mind is blank. Deciding that it's useless, he shrugs it off.
Casually, he happens to look over, finding something so. ethereal. You. Beautiful hair. Mesmerizing eyes. Glowing skin. Soft-looking lips. His mouth opens a bit, then shuts again, then repeats the action a couple of times like a fish.
Throat dry. Eyes locked. Face pink. He only ever gets like this for one thing and one thing only.
Volleyball.
"Whacha looking at?" Hinata wakes him up.
Startled, he jumps a bit. "What?"
"What're you looking at?"
"Nothing."
"He was looking at a girl", Sugawara says casually. "She's really pretty, too."
Hinata tilts his head to the side. "Staring? Is it because she looks like a volleyball?"
"Obviously not! Baka!"
"Oh... lemme see her!"
"No!"
"You should talk to her," Nishinoya tells him. "A tall guy like yourself might just stand a chance."
"NO."
He grabs his milk and start sipping it as he stares off at you. Maybe. He stands up abruptly, not saying a word.
"I could.. buy her milk..? Nodding to himself.
A little happy, he goes to the vending machine and buys two milks. One for you, and the other for him. When he walks over to you, he keeps them behind his back, meaning to surprise you. When beside you, he sees you turn your head, looking a bit confused and startled.
"Can I help you?" you ask.
"Uh- I- like milk!!" He places it on your table and retreats, loosing all confidence entirely.
When he sits down, he breathes heavily. That was terrifying...I'm never doing that again.
--
There she is!
Kageyama peeks through a door, finding your classroom. You're in Class 5. So you're smart, too? That's crazy!
He fumbles around for the milk he bought. Let's try again. Everyone likes milk, right? Yeah. It'll be fine.
Nervously, he walks to your desk and holds out the milk, avoiding your eyes.
"Uhh.. Thank you?" You take it from his hands. "Can I ask why you're giving me milk?" -
"B-b- because milk is...good?"
You giggle a bit. "Yeah, but why me specifically?"
"Uhh...you...look like you like milk."
You rest your chin in your hand, smiling at him. "Really? And what exactly gave me away."
"Your... strong...teeth?"
You cover your mouth while you giggle a bit. "My strong teeth? You're very observant. Thanks for the milk."
"O- of course! I, uh, I bring you milk every day."
"That's very sweet of you." You poke the straw through and start drinking the milk. "Well? Are you going to introduce yourself? Or should I just call you 'Milk Boy'?"
"I'm- I'm Tobio Kageyama. But you can call me whatever you want."
"I'm Y/n L/n. Feel free to call me whatever you want, as well."
"Uhhh."
"Y- Y/n." He blushes as he says your name. It's rolls of his tongue nicely and feels so good to say.
You give him a soft and kind smile, making his heart soar. "Milk Boy."
He blushes at the nickname. "Uh- would you- would you maybe l- l- like to watch my volleyball practice? We- we're really good."
"You're on a volleyball team? What position do you play?"
"Setter."
"That's cool. I look forward to watching you guys."
Excitedly, he says he has to go to class and leaves. The whole way, he smiles to himself. She wants to watch me play! I can't believe this!!
During class, he zones out. He tells himself that he has to be extra good at practice to make sure that you're impressed, and he has to keep your attention. He just has to.
When it comes time around for practice, you two head to the gym together. He points to the stands and tell you to sit and watch. You nod and oblige.
He starts changing his shirt into the usual practice tank, then grabs a ball to get started. He happens to look over, and finds you to be blushing with wide eyes. What's your deal? Did something happen?
Shrugging it off, he gets to work. On the court, all else is forgotten. There's just a volleyball and a net. He's basically dead to the world as he practices. They do a couple practice matches, they measure how high each player can jump, a couple dive receive drills.
They don't finish until late at night, and when he goes up to you, you seem slightly flustered and embarrassed. "How'd I do?" he asks, wiping off some sweat with a towel.
"You- you were amazing."
He smiles. "Thank you. Do you want me to walk you home? It's just that- it's a little late and-"
"I'd love that, Milk Boy."
You stand up and collect your things. Together, you walk out of the gym and head towards your home, talking the whole way. You're sweet and he loves listening to your voice. Whenever he's awkward, you fill in, making it so much easier. You're just so... sweet.
When he drops you off at home, you give him a smile before going inside. As he walks to his own home, he smiles, thinking about how the day went. He thinks it was pretty good. And you definitely provided good company. He's too happy for his own good.
--
"H- hi, Y/n," Kageyama says in front of the school. He holds out a little milk box.
"Hello, Milk Boy." You take it from his hands. "Thank you."
"O- of course."
Every day goes like this. It's a simple tradition, but he's happy. More than anything else, he hopes you're happy, too. You've been acquainted with his entire volleyball team, and they all like you enough. Hinata is always talking your ear off, to which Kageyma will glare.
Right now, he's about to walk into your class, but he hears you guys talking.
"Why do you keep accepting the milk?" asks a female voice. "You don't even like it! And you're lactose intolerant!"
You say back, "I know, but it just makes him so happy. You see the way his face lights up. And I don't dislike it enough that I can't stand to drink it. Its just that if given the choice, I'd probably pick something else."
You don't like it?
"You're such a simp! Just tell him!"
"I could never! I want him to be happy."
"Then go confess your undying love."
"Oh, shut up!"
"C'mon, everyone knows that he likes you. And he's obviously not saying anything. Just ask him out or something!!"
"I just- let's give him some time, okay? I'm sure he'll come around to it. He's awkward."
"Oh, whatever. You're just too chicken."
--
"P- please go on a date with me!" he says at your door, dropping you off per usual.
"You heard us, didn't you?"
"Uh- well-"
You lean up and kiss his cheek. "I'd love to. What time do I expect you to be picking me up?"
"S-S- Saturday at... 11:00."
"Sounds good. Good night Milk Boy."
