It was very quiet in the Hospital Wing. Ginny and Hermione had bloodshot eyes while Ron was looking on the verge of tears. Hagrid was there, looking shaken up as they were all in silence, the only sound was the sniffling of the women.
Harry walked up and everyone's heads snapped up to look at him.
"What did you do?" Hermione snapped, standing up.
"I- what?" he asked. "Why are we even here?"
"What did you do?" Hermione repeated, her voice shaking as she looked at Harry. "Mia was fine. She was sober!" Harry's face dropped.
"W-What?" Harry asked confused. "What's going on?" Everyone stepped aside and Harry looked where they were looking. Mia was lying in the hospital bed, her skin as white as snow, barely breathing as she had cuts on her face, arms and chest. She looked close to death.
"What. . . .?"
"I found her," Hermione said, tears rolling down her face, "on the floor in an empty corridor. She was barley breathing, and I found this. . . ." she held up a small bag of tiny white pills, ". . . .in her pocket."
"We found them in her Quidditch robes as well," Ron said, his voice hoarse. "She took them before the match."
Harry said nothing as he stared at his sister.
"You spoke to her before the match," Ginny said, her eyes bloodshot, "what did you say to her?"
"I confronted her about the Yule Ball," he said as he stared at his sister, guilt swallowing him whole. His eyes watered as he stared at the almost lifeless form of Mia.
"What did you say?" Hermione asked.
"I said," Harry said, "I said that she was stupid, that what she did disgusted me and that Mum and Dad would be disappointed with her."
"What else?" Ron asked as Harry stared at Mia.
"That she's an embarrassment and that I wish she wasn't related to me," he said as the others looked at him, horrified.
"All because she slept with someone?" Hermione asked, her voice shaking. "All because they both got a bit too drunk and slept together? You wouldn't have a problem with this if it was with anyone else, but it happened to be with someone you hate?" Harry said nothing. "How could you be so selfish?! Your ego and your hatred for Malfoy almost cost your sister her life!"

News of Mia's overdose spread around the school quickly. Christmas was approaching fast by the time Mia was released from the Hospital Wing. Hagrid had already single-handedly delivered the usual twelve Christmas trees for the Great Hall; garlands of holly and tinsel had been twisted around the banisters of the stairs; everlasting candles glowed from inside the helmets of suits of armour and great bunches of mistletoe had been hung at intervals along the corridors. Wherever she went, people would whisper and stare at her. This time, she was used to it.
