"Now, don't forget to look over the chapter on antidotes," Slughorn called to his class as the twins looked at each other. They were waiting outside for the Professor. "I'll be poisoning one of you next time we meet. I'm joking! Off you go! Don't forget your rattails, Miss Alys."

As the first years walked out, the twins walked into the classroom, looking at each other. Slughorn hadn't noticed them and was humming to himself until he turned around and saw the twins.

"Ah!" he said, seeing the twins, "if it isn't the Wonder twins! To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Well, sir, I wondered if we might ask you something," Harry said as Slughorn looked at him.

"Ask away, my dear boy, ask away!"

"Well, you see, the other day I was in the Restricted Section, in he library," Mia said, using a sly tone of voice as she looked at Slughorn, "and I stumbled upon                something rather odd while reading. Something about a bit of rare magic."

"Yes?" Slughorn asked. "And exactly what was this                rare magic?'

"I don't recall the name," Mia said, "but it got me confused me. Are there some kinds of magic you're not                allowed to teach?"

Slughorn looked up and eyed the twins carefully.

"I'm a Potions Professor, Potters," he said, "perhaps your question would best be posed to Professor Snape."

"Well, we don't exactly see eye-to-eye, sir," Mia said, "what I mean to say is, he's not like you. He might. . . . misunderstand."

Recognition flickered in Slughorn's eyes as he stared at Mia, almost fear it was.

"There can be no light without the dark," Slughorn said, "and so it is with magic. Myself, I have always strived to live within the light. I suggest you do the same."

"Did you say the same to Tom Riddle, sir?" Mia asked, raising an eyebrow. "When he came asking questions. Did you tell him what he wanted to know?"

Slughorn froze in the doorway and slowly turned to face Mia, who had the same look Voldemort had on his face.

"Dumbledore put you up to this," he said, finally realising as Mia stared at him. "Didn't he? Didn't he!"

The twins looked at each other as Slughorn nodded.

"Sir," Harry began, but Slughorn silenced him with an upraised hand.   Then, without another word, he left.

"That went well," Mia said, looking at Harry.

"Mia! Mia!"

The ginger girl was sitting in the common room, dozing off when Harry woke her up.
