"Quick thinking on your part, Mia."
It was evening; the hospital wing was quiet, the windowscurtained, the lamps lit. Ron's was the only occupied bed. Mia, Harry, Hermione, and Ginny were sitting around him with Dumbledore, Snape, Slughorn and McGonagall standing at the end of the bed; they had spent all day waiting outside the double doors, trying to see inside wheneversomebody went in or out. Madam Pomfrey had only let them enter at eight o'clock.
"Sir?" Mia asked, looking at Dumbledore. Her eyes were bloodshot and her skin was pale as she looked at the older Professor.
"Using a Bezoar," he said as she nodded. "You must be very proud of your student, eh, Horace?"
"Hm?" Slughorn asked. "Oh. Yes, very proud."
"I think we all agree that Miss.Potter's actions were heroic," McGonagall said as Mia looked at her and smiled lightly. "The question is, why were they necessary?"
"Why indeed," Dumbledore said, taking the half-empty bottle of mead, still bearing a bit of mead in it. "This appears to be a gift, Horace. You don't by chance remember who gave you this bottle, do you, which by the way possesses remarkably subtle hints oflicorice and cherry when not polluted with poison."
"Actually I had intended to give itas a gift myself," Slughorn said as Mia looked at him.
"To whom might I ask?" Dumbledore asked as Slughorn hesitated.
"You, Headmaster," he said and before anyone could respond, the doors burst open and Lavender Brown came running in.
"Where is he?" she demanded as Mia looked at her. "Where's my Won-Won! Has he been asking for me?"
"No," Mia said bluntly, "because he's been poisoned." Lavender looked at Mia, then her eyes noticed Hermione.
"What's she doing here?" she snapped, glaring at Hermione.
"I might ask you the same," Hermione snapped as Mia looked at her.
"I happen to be his girlfriend," Lavender said as Hermione looked at her.
"I happen to be his. . . . friend," she said as Lavender scoffed at her.
"Don't make me laugh," she snapped, "you haven't spoken in weeks. I suppose you want to make up with him now that he's suddenly all interesting."
"He's been poisoned, you daft dimbo!" Hermione said as Mia couldn't help the grin growing on her face. "And for the record, I'vealways found him interesting."
Hermione frowned, a bit embarrassed as Mia winked at her. At that moment, Ron stirred in his sleep as Lavender looked at him.
"Ha!" she said, making Mia jump. "See? He senses my presence. I'm here, Won-Won. I'm here. . . ."
