You took a deep breath, straightening out your clothes one last time. A few hours had passed since the guards "invaded" your home and you were pissed ever since.

"We have to make the best out of our situation," you asserted, trying to mostly convince yourself that this was for the better.

From where you stood, you could already see the festival through the few trees standing in front of you. As much as you wanted to attend this event with Xyra alone, it was better to play along with these two guards and meet them here.

By now you knew the blond guy was Nevan and the brunette Connor. At least they didn't seem to be the cautious type so you'd be able to sneak around them if you had to.

Maybe they'd even introduce you to other guards, the ones who wouldn't come across the poison and who you'd have to take down yourself before the execution.

"Looks pretty nice from here," Xyra commented as she nodded to the festival. It did.

People dressed in more colorful clothing than usual and a band played somewhere farther away, you could still hear the faint music coming from the distance.

"Yeah, I just hope Nevan and Connor won't cross us the first hour or so."

"Or at all, honestly," you heard Xyra mumble, to which you agreed as you stepped out of the woods. The more steps you took towards the fest, the clearer you experienced everything: The smell of freshly baked goods and sweets, the sound of people laughing and talking, and the sight of everyone in this city.

Children ran around playing tag, some were gathered in a corner and tossed marbles around, although it didn't seem to work as well on the cobblestone.

"Looks... pretty nice," you stated, turning your head from side to side as you took everything in. It almost reminded you of that one day in your childhood, when your father, mother and you attended a themed funfair. You were dressed as a princess, running around the place and dragging your parents by their arms.

You wondered what your father would think of you now.

In less than a few hours, you were executing their leaders, your old "friend", but you were saving these people from tyranny.

You took a deep breath, before shaking your head. This wasn't about you or your morals- this was entirely about avenging Layka and the others.

She probably would've loved to play with these kids, tossing marbles and trying out all kinds of sweets.

Now she was... you didn't even know where. She was gone, not a single thing to remind you or anyone of her existence except for the memories you shared with her in the cell and interrogation laboratory.

You wiped the wetness from your cheek and took a step forward. "Let's go."

Everything looked pretty similar to that funfair. There were stands where people could win prizes for toppling over cans, throwing rings at poles or popping balloons with darts. Next to those, there were many fruits covered in chocolate and similar things, probably not something you had on Earth.
