Monsters and Mana

You ran through the trees and bushes of the forest, panting as you put one foot in front of the other in exhaustion. Your throat was burning and heart racing; an ogre was chasing you, Pidge and Hunk down and all you could do right now was run.

The booming steps of the ogre echoed throughout the whole place, you swallowed hard as you tried to refrain from looking back.

Suddenly, the footsteps came to a halt. The three of you stopped and turned into all directions.

You squinted your eyes, trying to see through the dense fog. "Is he... gone?" you quietly asked.

"Oh no, look up!" Pidge yelled, pointing into the sky, where the monster came falling from. He had an axe in hand, holding it high to swing at you.

"Get behind me!" Hunk yelled as he pulled Pidge and you over to him. With a raised magical cane in hand, he yelled out a spell of protection, which immediately summoned a large, circular shield above you.

You flinched in fear as the axe came down on it, crashing on the wall of magic with such force, it cause wind to escape into all directions.

Lightnings followed as the ogre kept holding down on it, hoping to breach it. Fortunately, it held on just enough to keep all three of you unharmed. With a loud pang, it disappeared, and the ogre dropped his arm besides him again.

"Hit it with your lightning bolt!" you suggested, holding your two arms above your head just in case.

Hunk quickly acted, yelling out a spell of lightning as he spun his cane and held it to the green creature. You watched a promising light escape the top of the cane, almost blinding you, but when Hunk shot it, it almost immediately faded.

What came out was a magical arrow almost the size of your hand. It traveled slowly, and all of you then knew that the attack was a fail.

"What the... ," you mumbled as you watched the arrow steadily going for his head, not even the enemy moved as he watched it with a unamused expression. When it reached him, nothing but merely a small electric shock left the arrow, only enough to rough up the ogre's hair.

The four of you stood in silence, taking in the situation. This was definitely a fail.

"RUN!" Hunk yelled out and you and Pidge didn't hesitate to follow him as you stumbled out of the forest and into a declining meadow. You sprinted and sprinted, your cape flowing in the wind as you moved your legs as fast as you could.

Maybe you should throw away the cape and weapon to become faster? No, it wouldn't make a difference. You looked back to the ogre that was definitely closing in on you.

All three of you screamed your lungs out.

Pidge held her weapon in hand tightly as she screamed, "You call that a lightning bolt?! If you're the only remaining hope for your village, they're doomed!!!"
