"what was there to complain of, but that she had been loved?" - ovid

Delilah didn't know she was capable of such softness before Henry was born, which sounded so crazy because how could a baby bring such a thing out of a sadist murderer like Delilah?
Psychologically, Delilah should not be capable of feeling anything towards this baby, but she did.
She loved Henry. He was her boy the same way Mason was.
It was easy to fall into a routine when they came home with Henry on the Thursday evening. Nora made dinner for them all, and Will had Henry swaddled against his chest in a baby wrap Delilah helped him into so JJ could actually eat and focus on herself.
After dinner, JJ fed Henry before Delilah ran her a bath and took Henry to put him down in the crib in his room. Will sat in there with him, too obsessed to stray further than five meters from the boy, and Delilah headed back to the bathroom to wash JJ's hair for her and make sure she was actually okay because she was still in a lot of pain.
JJ was breastfeeding, so, Will would ferry Henry in every few hours for a bottle, and then he ended up sitting on the bed with Delilah and JJ as the three of them just watched Henry sleep.
It was definitely turning into one of the weirder family dynamics, but Delilah kind of loved the routine by the time they were a few days into it.
Henry was a fascinating creature. He was so small and didn't actually know anything, and they had to teach him how to be a person. That was crazy. They should make parents take quizzes before having children, in Delilah's opinion, but they were here to raise Henry with blind optimism and the power of friendship.
That was what Will said, anyway.
It was kind of entirely hilarious, but that could be the sleep deprivation. Delilah didn't ever really figure out how sleep and humans worked together in a stable relationship, but sleep was the last thing she could do now there was a baby in the house.
Even when Will was with Henry, or he was curled up in the Moses basket beside the bed and JJ was asleep on Delilah's chest and Will was downstairs making coffee for himself and Delilah, Delilah couldn't sleep.
She was half terrified Henry would just die out of nowhere, which was a trauma response, but the other part of her was terrified to miss a single moment.
She'd missed the first halves of her children's lives, and she'd never get to see the rest of what could've been, what should've been. She didn't want to make that same mistake with Henry.
Even if the kid was probably the most well behaved baby who rarely cried and was entirely happy to sleep most of the day away and was pretty fucking boring right now, Delilah could not take her eyes off him.
