It was supposed to be a fun day off—a break from the usual gruelling schedule that WayV had been working under for months. The weather was perfect, sunny with just the right amount of warmth. Everyone was buzzing with excitement as they made their way to the amusement park, all eager to let loose and enjoy some time outside the spotlight.
"Alright, let's make the most of this!" Kun clapped his hands, his usual leadership smile lighting up his face. "We're here to have fun, so no worries about anything."
The others, dressed casually in comfortable clothing, cheered and followed him through the entrance gate, their enthusiasm infectious. Xiaojun was practically skipping, his grin wide as he pointed toward the roller coasters in the distance. Ten was already chatting with Hendery about the best food stalls in the park, and Winwin was looking at the maps with curiosity.
Yangyang, however, hung back a little, his thoughts clouded by a sense of unease. He didn't voice it—he couldn't bring himself to—but as much as the idea of a day off sounded appealing, there was one thing that made him dread the outing more than anything else: the rides. Particularly the ones that involved heights. Yangyang was terrified of heights, and while he'd always kept it hidden behind his usual confident demeanor, the thought of the Ferris wheel they were heading toward now made his stomach turn.
As the group walked toward the massive Ferris wheel looming in the distance, Yangyang tried to push his fear aside. He wasn't going to ruin the fun for the others. He could do this. It's just a ride, he told himself, but his body didn't seem to listen. The closer they got, the tighter his chest became.
"You alright?" Kun turned to him with a raised eyebrow, his voice gentle but concerned.
Yangyang quickly plastered a smile on his face, trying to brush off the discomfort. "Yeah, just... thinking about the view," he said, his voice strained despite his best efforts. "It's going to be amazing up there, right?"
Kun, though a little skeptical, nodded. "Of course! A perfect view of the entire park. We'll be able to see everything."
Yangyang's stomach churned as they stood in line. The others were already talking about which cart they'd want, but Yangyang was stuck in his own head, trying to ignore the fluttering in his chest.
When it was their turn to board, he silently climbed into the cart, careful to sit on the side closest to the center, away from the edges. The door shut behind them, and he instinctively gripped the safety bar with both hands. The ride started moving, slowly at first, and Yangyang forced himself to breathe steadily.
But the higher they went, the harder it became to keep calm. His heart began to race. The sound of the wheels turning, the view stretching out beneath him, it was all too much. His breath became shallow as the Ferris wheel creaked its way higher into the sky. The wind started to pick up, making the cart sway slightly, and his palms started to sweat.
He couldn't show it. He couldn't let the others know.
Kun, sitting beside him, noticed the subtle shift in Yangyang's posture. The younger man was gripping the safety bar so tightly that his knuckles were white. His face had gone pale, and his breath seemed to be coming in quick, shallow bursts.
"Yangyang?" Kun's voice was soft, but there was a hint of concern in it. "You alright?"
Yangyang flinched, turning to look at Kun with forced calmness. "Yeah, just... just a little dizzy," he said quickly, hoping it would be enough.
Kun raised an eyebrow but didn't press the matter. He turned his attention to the view, pointing out different landmarks in the distance. "Look at that! We can see the whole city from up here."
