The cozy mountain retreat house buzzed with warmth and camaraderie as the '95 and '96 liners of NCT—Taeyong, Johnny, Yuta, Kun, Doyoung, and Ten—settled into their much-anticipated getaway. The chalet was tucked away amidst a snowy mountainside, its wooden beams and roaring fireplace creating the perfect ambiance for relaxation. Outside, snow gently drifted down, blanketing the surroundings in serene white. It was a much-needed break for the members, a chance to unwind before the whirlwind of comebacks and promotions consumed their schedules again.
Ten, the youngest among them, radiated energy. His lively personality filled the house with laughter and playful banter, ensuring there was never a dull moment. His vibrant energy was contagious, lifting the spirits of even the more reserved members like Kun.
"Finally, some peace and quiet," Johnny said, stretching his long legs across the couch.
"For now," Yuta teased, giving Ten a pointed glance. Ten was crouched by the fireplace, poking at the embers with a stick and clearly plotting something.
The group chuckled, and Taeyong leaned back in his chair, a content smile on his face. "Let's try to keep it that way. No drama this weekend, okay?"
Ten grinned mischievously. "Drama? Me? Never."
The others exchanged knowing looks. Ten's version of "drama-free" often meant trouble brewing beneath his innocent facade.
As the evening wore on, Ten decided to fully embrace his role as the maknae. Watching the younger members of NCT pull pranks had given him an itch to create some chaos of his own. He stood at the top of the staircase, drawing a deep breath before letting out a dramatic yelp. He crumpled to the floor in an exaggerated heap, limbs sprawled haphazardly.
"Ten!" Taeyong's alarmed voice rang out as he rushed over, heart pounding. "Are you okay?"
Johnny and Kun followed close behind, their expressions matching Taeyong's concern.
"What happened?" Kun asked, kneeling beside him.
Doyoung arrived moments later, already grumbling. "We can't even go one day without someone getting hurt."
Ten groaned, clutching his side theatrically. But the longer he kept up the act, the harder it became to suppress his laughter. Finally, the dam broke, and he burst into fits of giggles, startling the others.
"Gotcha!" he exclaimed, his face lighting up with pride.
For a moment, there was only silence. Then Taeyong let out a long, frustrated sigh. Johnny shook his head, a mix of exasperation and amusement flickering across his face. Yuta crossed his arms, unimpressed.
"Seriously, Ten?" Yuta said. "You had us worried."
"Come on, you should've seen your faces!" Ten laughed, but his joy faded as he noticed the disapproving stares.
Doyoung folded his arms. "Not funny. What if something had actually happened?"
Ten's grin faltered. "It was just a joke..."
Taeyong fixed him with a pointed look. "Enough with the pranks, okay? We're here to relax, not have heart attacks."
Feeling chastened, Ten muttered a soft apology and slinked upstairs to his shared room with Kun.
Still feeling guilty, Ten climbed the stairs with slow, dragging steps. He reached the second flight, lost in thought, when his socked foot slipped on the polished wood. Time seemed to slow as he lost his balance, arms flailing for something—anything—to hold onto. His body tumbled backward, each step delivering a sharp, jarring blow. The final impact came with a sickening crack as his head hit the floor.
For a moment, the world spun around him. Pain radiated through his body, and his vision blurred. Ten tried to move, but his limbs felt heavy, unresponsive. Darkness crept into the edges of his mind.
In the living room, the crash echoed loudly.
"What was that?" Taeyong asked, glancing toward the stairs.
"Probably another one of Ten's pranks," Yuta said, rolling his eyes.
Johnny chuckled. "Let him sulk. He'll come down when he's hungry."
Minutes ticked by, and there was no sign of Ten. Doyoung frowned, unease settling in his chest. "I'm going to check."
Taeyong waved him off. "He's probably fine. But go ahead if you're worried."
Doyoung climbed the stairs, calling out, "Ten? Stop sulking and come down."
As he reached the second flight, his blood ran cold. Ten lay crumpled at the bottom of the stairs, unmoving.
"Ten!" Doyoung's voice cracked with panic as he sprinted down. "Ten! Wake up!"
Doyoung's shout sent the others rushing. Taeyong and Johnny reached the scene first, closely followed by Yuta and Kun.
"Ten!" Taeyong knelt beside him, his hands trembling as he checked for signs of consciousness. "Can you hear me?"
Slowly, Ten's eyes fluttered open, but something was wrong. His gaze was unfocused, and when he tried to speak, his words came out in a jumbled mix of languages.
"อะไรนะ? 我很抱歉... Uh... sorry... 痛い... 痛い..." Ten's voice was shaky, his sentences fragmented.
"What's he saying?" Taeyong asked, his voice edged with panic.
"He's disoriented," Johnny said, crouching beside him. "He's mixing languages."
Kun knelt on the other side, speaking softly in Mandarin. "Ten, calm down. 你没事吗? Can you understand me?"
Ten blinked, his teary eyes searching Kun's face, but he shook his head weakly. "I... I'm sorry..."
"Kun, keep talking to him in Mandarin," Taeyong ordered, his leader instincts kicking in. "Johnny, stick to English. Yuta, you and I will handle Japanese. Doyoung, call someone who speaks Thai."
Doyoung quickly dialed Lisa from BLACKPINK, one of the few Thai speakers they knew.
"Doyoung-oppa? What's wrong?" Lisa's concerned voice came through the line.
"It's Ten. He fell down the stairs, and he's speaking a mix of languages. Can you help?"
Lisa's calm voice steadied him. "Put me on speaker."
Doyoung held the phone near Ten. "Ten, Lisa noona is here. Talk to her."
Ten blinked at the phone, tears spilling over as he struggled to form coherent sentences. "ขอโทษ... ผมแค่...อยากขอโทษพวกพี่..."
Lisa's voice softened. "He's apologizing. He feels bad for upsetting you."
The members pieced together Ten's words, their worry mounting. They comforted him as best they could, offering soothing reassurances in every language he might understand.
After carefully carrying Ten to the couch, they bundled him in blankets to keep him warm. His speech remained muddled, and his dazed state persisted into the night, worrying them all.
By morning, it was clear he needed medical attention. Kun took charge, organizing a trip to the nearest hospital. There, Ten was diagnosed with a mild concussion and a sprained wrist. The doctor reassured them that the language mixing and disorientation were temporary effects of the concussion.
Back at the chalet, Ten sat on the couch, his wrist in a brace and an ice pack on his head. The members hovered around him like protective older brothers.
"I'm really sorry," Ten said quietly, his speech clearer now. "For the prank. For making you mad. And for scaring you."
Taeyong sat beside him, pulling him into a gentle hug. "You scared us more with the fall than the prank. Just promise you'll be more careful."
"I promise," Ten said, his voice trembling with emotion.
Johnny grinned, ruffling Ten's hair. "You're lucky we love you, Cute Devil."
The rest of the retreat was quieter, the members ensuring Ten got the rest he needed. Despite the scare, their bond deepened, leaving Ten grateful for the unwavering support of his hyungs.
