Jeonghan had a bad feeling about today. He wasn't usually one to dwell on negative premonitions, but something about the frantic energy this morning had him uneasy. With back-to-back schedules from sunrise until late at night, their day was already packed.
Breakfast had been a rushed affair—just a few bites of toast before the members were shuffled into the company van. Jeonghan barely had time to register the whirlwind of activity before he found himself buckled into his seat, squeezed between Seungkwan and the window.
"Alright, everyone ready?" the manager asked hurriedly, turning in his seat to glance back at the group. Without waiting for a response, he started the engine and sped out of the parking lot.
The van was its usual chaotic self, with chatter bouncing between the members. Hoshi and DK were enthusiastically singing the jingle of a commercial they'd seen earlier, while Vernon and Dino were debating which variety games they'd likely be asked to play during the show. Seungkwan chimed in occasionally, his voice cutting above the others as he alternated between teasing and laughing with them.
Jeonghan, however, remained silent. The van's abrupt acceleration had jolted his stomach unpleasantly, and as they turned onto a winding road, the feeling worsened. He leaned his head against the cool glass of the window, willing his stomach to settle, but it didn't help.
The roads seemed especially unforgiving today—sharp turns, sudden stops, and quick accelerations that sent him lurching in his seat. Jeonghan's grip on his knees tightened as a wave of nausea rolled over him.
"Hyung, are you okay?" Seungkwan's voice cut through the noise, softer this time. Jeonghan didn't respond immediately, but when Seungkwan glanced over, he saw the pallor of Jeonghan's face and the beads of sweat forming on his temple.
"Hyung, you're really pale," Seungkwan said, his voice tinged with concern. He nudged Joshua, seated in front of them, and whispered, "Jeonghan-hyung isn't feeling well."
Joshua turned around, his brow furrowing when he saw Jeonghan's condition. "Jeonghan, are you okay? What's wrong?"
Jeonghan opened his mouth to respond, but another sharp turn from the van made his stomach churn violently. He clamped his hand over his mouth, leaning forward as if to keep the nausea at bay.
"Manager-nim, slow down!" Seungcheol barked from the front seat, his voice loud and commanding.
"We're running late," the manager replied, glancing briefly in the rearview mirror.
"I don't care!" Seungcheol snapped. "Jeonghan's about to throw up!"
The manager slowed marginally, but it wasn't enough to make a significant difference. Jeonghan groaned softly, clutching his stomach as his vision blurred. He felt Joshua's hand on his shoulder, steadying him as Seungkwan rummaged for a bag.
"Here, hyung," Seungkwan said, holding a plastic bag in front of him. "Just in case."
Jeonghan took the bag with trembling hands, his head spinning as he tried to focus on his breathing. Joshua leaned closer, his voice calm and reassuring. "Just breathe, Jeonghan. In through your nose, out through your mouth. You're okay."
Hoshi, seated behind them, peeked over the seat, his usual playful expression replaced with worry. "Hyung, do you want me to distract you? I can tell you a joke or something."
"Not now, Hoshi," Joshua said firmly, though his tone wasn't unkind.
Mingyu, seated diagonally from Jeonghan, handed Seungkwan a bottle of water. "Give this to him. Maybe it'll help."
Jeonghan tried to sip the water, but even the thought of swallowing made him gag. He pushed the bottle away weakly, shaking his head.
The van finally pulled into the broadcasting station, but by then, Jeonghan was barely holding it together. As soon as the vehicle stopped, Seungkwan and Joshua helped him out, their hands firm on his arms to steady him.
"Take it slow, hyung," Joshua murmured.
The world outside felt unbearably bright and loud, the chatter of staff and the hum of equipment making Jeonghan wince. His legs felt unsteady as he tried to walk, and his stomach churned with every step.
The other members quickly surrounded him, forming a protective barrier to shield him from prying eyes. Woozi and Wonwoo flanked him, their smaller frames helping to block him from view, while Mingyu walked close behind, ready to catch him if he stumbled.
"Let's get him inside," Seungcheol said, his voice calm but firm.
They guided Jeonghan to a quiet corner of the waiting area, away from the bustling staff and the noise of equipment being set up. As soon as he sat down, Jeonghan slumped against the couch, his head falling back as he closed his eyes.
DK knelt in front of him, holding out a cold towel. "Here, hyung. This might help."
Jeonghan took it gratefully, pressing it to his forehead. The coolness was a relief, though it did little to ease the nausea.
"I've got ginger candy," Vernon said, appearing with a small packet in hand. "My mom always makes me carry these for emergencies."
Jeonghan managed a weak smile as he accepted the candy. "Thanks, Vernon."
Seungcheol stood nearby, his phone pressed to his ear as he spoke to the production staff. "We need a little more time before we start. One of our members isn't feeling well."
"Do we need to reschedule?" Joshua asked quietly, glancing at Seungcheol.
"No, we'll manage," Seungcheol replied, his tone decisive. "But Jeonghan's resting first."
Jeonghan opened his eyes, his gaze shifting to Seungcheol. "Hyung, I'm fine. I can—"
"Don't even start," Junhui interrupted, his voice uncharacteristically stern. "You're not fine, and you're not pushing yourself."
"You don't have to be a hero, Jeonghan-hyung," Wonwoo added, his tone soft but firm.
As Jeonghan reclined on the couch, Hoshi plopped down beside him, a mischievous grin on his face. "Alright, hyung, let me cheer you up. Why did the scarecrow win an award?"
Jeonghan blinked at him, confused. "What?"
"Because he was outstanding in his field!" Hoshi delivered the punchline with an exaggerated flourish, waiting expectantly.
Jeonghan groaned, though a small smile tugged at his lips. "That's terrible."
"Terribly good," Hoshi corrected, earning a chuckle from DK, who had taken over massaging Jeonghan's temples.
The lightheartedness helped distract Jeonghan, and he found himself relaxing slightly as the members continued to fuss over him. Minghao brought him a fresh bottle of water, while Dino hovered nearby, his youthful energy channeled into making sure Jeonghan was comfortable.
"You're going to be fine, hyung," Seungkwan said, sitting beside him and patting his knee. "We've got you."
By the time the staff came to check on them, Jeonghan was feeling marginally better. His nausea had subsided enough for him to sit up without the world spinning, though he still felt drained.
"Can you do it?" Seungcheol asked, his gaze steady.
Jeonghan nodded. "I'll be okay."
The taping began soon after, with the members subtly keeping an eye on Jeonghan throughout. During breaks, they made sure he stayed hydrated and rested, their attentiveness not going unnoticed by the staff.
Later that night, as they returned to the dorms, Jeonghan reflected on the day. Despite the discomfort and the chaos, he felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
"You guys really are the best," he said softly as they settled into the living room, the tension of the day finally lifting.
"Of course we are," Seungkwan teased, throwing an arm around him. "What else did you expect?"
Jeonghan smiled, his heart full. No matter how hectic their schedules got, he knew he could always count on his members to have his back.
