Hunter adjusted his jacket as he walked into the brightly lit studio of Idol Duels. His heart pounded in rhythm with the bustling energy of the set. Today's show promised a unique concept: rookie idols would team up with their role models to face off against a staff team in a mix of skill-based games and quirky challenges. For Hunter, the opportunity was both thrilling and nerve-wracking. He'd grown up watching idols he admired, never imagining he'd stand beside them as a peer.
The producers had kept his teammate's identity a secret, promising an "unexpected but meaningful" pairing. Hunter couldn't stop wondering who it might be. He shook out his hands to calm himself, excitement buzzing under his skin.
"Hunter, are you ready to meet your partner?" the host called out, standing center stage with a dramatic flair.
"Yes!" Hunter replied eagerly, stepping forward to face the crowd.
The stage lights dimmed slightly as the doors on the far end of the studio swung open. In walked a slim figure, radiating effortless confidence—Ten from WayV.
Hunter's eyes widened in disbelief. "P'Ten!?" he exclaimed in Thai, the words tumbling out before he could stop them.
Ten's grin widened as he approached, giving Hunter a quick pat on the shoulder. "Surprise, nong! Didn't expect me, did you?"
Hunter shook his head, a stunned laugh escaping him. "Not at all! I can't believe this."
The host clapped his hands, delighted by the duo's immediate chemistry. "Looks like our rookie idol is starstruck! But Hunter, how do you feel about teaming up with Ten?"
Hunter took a deep breath, switching to Korean. "I'm really excited! Ten sunbaenim is one of the idols I've looked up to since before I even joined KQ Entertainment. It's an honor to be on the same team."
Ten gave a modest shrug, nudging Hunter lightly. "Hunter call me hyung. Let's work hard together. But no promises—I'm terrible at golf."
As they prepared for the day's challenge—a round of golf with mini-games for advantages—Hunter and Ten found themselves bonding over their shared heritage. Both being Thai, they naturally slipped into their native language, though they occasionally threw in phrases in Korean, Chinese, English, or even Japanese.
"Wait," Ten said at one point, holding up his hand. "What language are we even speaking right now? I think we just switched three times in one sentence."
Hunter laughed, the tension in his chest easing. "It's a mix, P'Ten. But it's nice—we understand each other."
"It is nice," Ten agreed. "You don't meet many Thai idols in the industry. It's good to talk like this."
The conversation felt effortless, and Hunter couldn't believe how down-to-earth Ten was. For someone so accomplished, Ten carried himself with humility and warmth.
"Do you play golf?" Ten asked as they warmed up.
"A little," Hunter admitted, a small smile creeping across his face. "I used to play when I was younger. Actually...I competed once. Won gold and bronze medals at the 1st CGA & U.S. Kids Golf Par 3 Challenge in 2015."
Ten stared at him, incredulous. "You're kidding."
Hunter shook his head. "I was ten years old."
"Why didn't you say that earlier?" Ten exclaimed, throwing his arms up. "Now I don't feel as bad about being terrible. You're going to carry this team."
Hunter chuckled. "I'll do my best, P'Ten. But I can teach you some tricks too."
The first round began, and Hunter's confidence was clear as he stepped up to take his shot. With a practiced swing, he sent the ball sailing through the air, landing neatly on the green.
