"You're seriously the most annoying person I know," Changmin huffed, crossing his arms as he leaned back against the couch.
Sunwoo, sprawled out on the floor with a gaming controller in hand, rolled his eyes. "And yet, here you are, still talking to me."
"Yeah, well, maybe I shouldn’t be."
Sunwoo scoffed, sitting up. "What’s that supposed to mean?"
"You never take anything seriously, Sunwoo. Everything’s just a joke to you. Maybe that’s why you never listen when people tell you to be careful."
Sunwoo’s playful smirk faltered, just for a second. "What, are you my mom now?"
"I wouldn’t have to be if you’d actually listen when people tell you to stop pushing yourself too hard."
The tension in the room thickened, the usual playful bickering suddenly shifting into something heavier. The rest of the members had been sitting around, watching their back-and-forth with amusement, but now, even they exchanged glances.
Sunwoo let out a short laugh, but there was no real amusement behind it. "Right. Because you're so responsible, huh? Always telling me what to do like you know everything."
Changmin clenched his jaw. "Maybe I wouldn't have to if you'd stop acting like nothing ever matters to you."
That hit deeper than intended. Sunwoo's face darkened for a split second, his fingers tightening around the controller. Then, just as quickly, his expression hardened. "You know what? Maybe you should stop worrying about me."
"Fine."
"Fine."
And just like that, the conversation ended.
Neither of them apologized. Neither of them even looked at each other the next morning.
At first, it was childish—both waiting for the other to give in, to crack first. But days passed. And neither did.
At first, no one thought much of it.
Sunwoo had a habit of wandering off, sometimes disappearing for hours when he needed space. He’d always come back with some excuse—he was at a café, walking by the river, or just clearing his head. It was normal.
But this time felt different.
Younghoon was the first to notice. He sat on the couch, scrolling through his phone, when he frowned. “Has anyone heard from Sunwoo today?”
It was evening now, and Sunwoo had left for the company early that morning. Normally, he'd be back by now, especially since they had an early schedule tomorrow.
No one responded at first, until New leaned over from the kitchen. “Not me. But he does his own thing sometimes, right?”
Younghoon nodded but couldn’t shake the unease creeping up his spine. He opened his chat with Sunwoo, seeing the last message he'd sent hours ago. It was still unread.
Something was wrong.
Younghoon turned to the others. “His phone’s off.”
Changmin, who had been pretending not to listen, stiffened.
Kevin shrugged. “Maybe his battery died.”
“No, but… Sunwoo always texts back,” Younghoon pressed, voice tight. “Even if it’s just to say ‘lol’ or something dumb. He wouldn’t just ignore us all day.”
