Jake had always been the life of the group. His charismatic smile, easygoing nature, and warm laughter had always been a source of comfort for ENHYPEN. But over the past few weeks, things had started to change. His usual bright energy had started to fade, replaced by quiet exhaustion and a distance in his eyes that didn’t seem like it was just fatigue from their hectic schedules. His brothers had noticed it, but no one dared to say anything. They all assumed it was just stress from the constant practice, rehearsals, and performances.
But as the days wore on, something felt… off. And no one could ignore it anymore.
It started subtly. Jake was always a bit of a picky eater, but lately, he had stopped showing interest in food altogether. At first, the members chalked it up to a lack of appetite, a temporary thing. After all, they were all used to skipping meals from time to time in order to catch up on practice or rest. But as Jake’s refusal to eat grew more consistent, the concern began to creep in.
One evening, after an exhausting day of rehearsals, the members gathered around a table stacked with food, ready to finally relax and share a meal together. The atmosphere was light, filled with the usual chatter and laughter, as everyone dug into their food, eager to refuel.
But Jake’s plate remained untouched. He sat at the table, absentmindedly stirring his chopsticks in his rice, barely looking at it.
“Jake,” Sunghoon said, his voice breaking through the casual noise of the others. “Are you not hungry? You’ve barely touched your food.”
Jake’s gaze flickered to the plate in front of him before looking away, his usual cheerful demeanor absent. “I’m fine. I’m just not hungry right now,” he said, giving the faintest shrug.
The others exchanged a few glances, but no one commented further. They assumed he would eat once the conversation moved on, but when they checked back, Jake hadn’t taken a single bite. The food was still untouched, and his expression hadn’t changed. He was just… staring at it.
Heeseung, who had always been the observant one, leaned forward, his brows furrowing in concern. “Jake, you sure you’re okay? You’re not looking too good, man.”
Jake smiled weakly, a forced grin that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Really, it’s fine. I’ve just been busy with practice. I’ll eat later.”
But the words were hollow, and Heeseung wasn’t convinced. He had seen that look in Jake’s eyes before—the same look that appeared when someone was hiding something. It was the same look he had worn in the past when something was bothering him, but he didn’t want to share. Heeseung knew Jake well enough to recognize that something deeper was going on.
The next few days passed in much the same way. Jake would show up for meals but barely touch his food. His energy was always low, and while he tried to mask it with his usual playfulness, it was clear that he was losing weight. His face had become pale, and his usual charisma had been replaced by a weariness that no amount of sleep seemed to fix.
As Jake continued to avoid meals, the members began to grow more worried. Heeseung finally decided to confront him.
One night, after another long practice session, the members were lounging around in the living room, trying to unwind with a game to lighten the mood. Everyone was gathered around, eager to relax, but there was an underlying tension in the air.
Niki, ever the competitive one, grinned as he set up the game board. “Alright, tonight’s challenge: loser has to do something embarrassing. Any volunteers to go first?”
The rest of the members chuckled, looking at each other nervously. There was no way they would let Niki win this one. The youngest always had some sort of silly punishment in mind when it came to these games, and they were all equally afraid of whatever he might come up with.
