Kyungmin sat on the couch in the dorm’s living room, staring blankly at the television. His favorite variety show played on the screen, but the usual laughs it brought him were absent. Instead, his mind raced with thoughts of the upcoming injection he couldn’t stop dreading.

It had started with a lingering cough and fever a few weeks ago. The company insisted he see a doctor, who prescribed medication and recommended a series of injections to speed up his recovery. The first injection was scheduled for tomorrow.

“Just a quick shot,” the doctor had said, as if it were no big deal. But for Kyungmin, it was.

His fear of needles wasn’t something he talked about. It wasn’t something he wanted anyone to know, not even his closest friends in the group. How could he? They’d probably laugh, or worse, think he was being childish.

“Kyungmin, are you okay?” Dohoon’s voice broke through his thoughts.

Kyungmin quickly straightened up and forced a smile. “Yeah, just tired.”

Dohoon studied him for a moment before nodding. “Get some rest, okay? Tomorrow’s our day off, but we still have practice later in the evening.”

“Got it,” Kyungmin said, grateful the conversation didn’t go any further.

But someone else was watching him more closely. Shinyu, their leader, had been observing Kyungmin’s unusual behavior for days now. Normally, Kyungmin was the heart of the dorm—always laughing, always cracking jokes. Lately, though, he seemed distracted and withdrawn.

Later that night, as the other members were getting ready for bed, Shinyu approached Kyungmin, who was lingering in the kitchen, pretending to clean up.

“Kyungmin,” Shinyu said softly, “can we talk for a minute?”

Kyungmin froze, his heart racing. “Uh… sure.”

Shinyu gestured toward the dining table, and they both sat down. The dorm was quiet now, the other members having retreated to their rooms.

“What’s going on with you?” Shinyu asked, his voice calm but laced with concern. “You’ve been off lately. Is something bothering you?”

Kyungmin hesitated. He wanted to brush it off, to tell Shinyu he was fine. But the weight of keeping it all inside had been crushing him, and now, with Shinyu looking at him so earnestly, he found himself breaking.

“I have to get an injection tomorrow,” he admitted quietly, his eyes fixed on the table.

Shinyu blinked, waiting for him to continue.

“And… I’m terrified of needles,” Kyungmin added, his voice barely above a whisper.

For a moment, there was silence. Kyungmin braced himself for laughter or a dismissive comment. Instead, Shinyu’s expression softened.

“That’s what’s been bothering you?” Shinyu asked gently.

Kyungmin nodded, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment. “I didn’t want to tell anyone. I thought… you might make fun of me.”

Shinyu leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. “Kyungmin, we’d never make fun of you for something like that. Everyone has fears. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

“But it feels so stupid,” Kyungmin muttered. “It’s just a needle. Kids get shots all the time.”

“It’s not stupid,” Shinyu said firmly. “And you’re not alone in this. How about I come with you tomorrow? I’ll be there the whole time.”

Kyungmin’s eyes widened. “You’d do that?”

“Of course,” Shinyu said with a reassuring smile. “We’re a team, remember?”
