Maki was always known as the playful one in &TEAM. He loved messing with his hyungs, pulling harmless pranks to make practice a little less stressful. Most of the time, Jo and Harua were the ones laughing along, teasing him right back. But this time… this time, he might have taken it too far.
It had started as a simple idea: during their vocal training, Maki asked their vocal coach to critique Jo and Harua extra hard—just for fun. He even added a few jabs of his own, mimicking their singing and throwing in exaggerated winces when they hit certain notes.
The coach had played along, sighing dramatically. “That take was… not good. You were pitchy, Jo. And Harua, your control was all over the place.”
Maki smirked as he leaned back in his seat. “Hyungs, what happened? You guys usually brag about your vocals, but today…” He trailed off with a fake grimace.
Harua’s face fell. Jo, ever composed, frowned slightly but just nodded. “Let’s try again,” he said, his voice tight.
Maki thought nothing of it. They’d brush it off, right?
Then came part two of his plan. Before dance practice, he had convinced the choreographer to nitpick Jo and Harua’s movements—especially Jo, who rarely got harsh critiques. Maki made sure to be standing nearby when the corrections started.
“Jo, you’re too stiff. Harua, you’re a beat behind. Again.”
Again. And again.
Jo kept his face blank, absorbing the criticism, but Harua… Harua looked like someone had just punched him in the stomach. His movements became more hesitant, his confidence visibly crumbling with each comment.
Even K, standing nearby, narrowed his eyes. The choreographer never nitpicked this much. And from what K could see, Jo and Harua were executing the moves just fine.
By the time practice ended, Harua barely spoke. He turned to Jo and whispered, “I’m going to the dorms.”
Jo hesitated before nodding. “I’ll come with you. Just to—”
“We’ll tell them we’re going to the bathroom,” Harua cut in, his voice low.
And with that, they left.
Maki still didn’t think much of it. It was just a joke. They’d get him back later, right? But when Yuma and Taki mentioned an hour later that Jo and Harua still hadn’t returned, something in his stomach twisted.
K’s brows furrowed. “They wouldn’t just disappear like that.”
EJ and Fuma pulled out their phones, immediately dialing Jo and Harua. Call after call went to voicemail. Then, finally, Yuma received a message from Jo.
Jo: We’re at the dorms. Harua’s not feeling well.
Maki’s stomach dropped. Not feeling well? Was this… because of him?
A cold weight settled in his chest as dread crawled up his spine.
He had pranked them. And now Harua wasn’t feeling well.
He messed up.
Badly.
Maki’s hands felt clammy as the members rushed to grab their things, preparing to head back to the dorms. He barely registered the worried conversations around him—his heart was hammering too loudly in his chest.
K’s face was tense with concern, and EJ was already texting Jo for more details. But Maki couldn’t shake the horrible realization settling in his gut.
