The sound of thunderous applause and cheers reverberated through the massive concert venue as WayV finished their final encore. The energy in the air was electrifying, the crowd's adoration for the group palpable as Kun stepped forward to thank their fans in flawless Mandarin.
"Thank you for supporting us and giving us this opportunity to perform in our home country," he said, his voice resonating with sincerity. "We're so grateful to be here tonight."
As the lights dimmed and the members left the stage, Renjun and Chenle clapped from their spot backstage, admiration clear in their expressions. Though both members of NCT Dream were used to performing in front of massive crowds, there was something awe-inspiring about watching their older brothers command the stage.
"WayV really knows how to work a crowd," Chenle said with a grin, nudging Renjun.
Renjun nodded, his eyes still on the stage. "Yeah, it's amazing to see them perform live. It's different from watching videos—there's so much passion in everything they do."
Moments later, the WayV members entered the backstage area, still buzzing from the high of the performance. Kun immediately made his way to Renjun and Chenle, his face lighting up when he saw them.
"You guys came!" Kun said, pulling them both into a brief hug.
"We wouldn't miss it," Renjun replied, smiling.
The other members soon joined, with Hendery and Yangyang cracking jokes about the enthusiastic fans and Ten already teasing Renjun and Chenle about being the "special guests" of the trip.
"That was only the warm-up," Ten said with a wink. "The real adventure starts tomorrow. Are you ready for the ultimate road trip?"
Renjun chuckled, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Traveling across China to visit each member's family was no small undertaking, but the thought of reconnecting with their roots made it all worthwhile.
As they left the venue and headed to the hotel for the night, the group's excitement was infectious. Hendery and Yangyang couldn't stop brainstorming about the best food stops along the way, while Xiaojun and WinWin debated over the most scenic routes.
Renjun, however, found himself unusually quiet. As they rode in the van, he leaned back against the seat, his stomach churning slightly. He attributed it to the late-night snacks he'd had before the concert, brushing off the discomfort as something minor.
Kun, sitting in the passenger seat, glanced back and noticed Renjun's silence. "Renjun, are you feeling okay?"
Renjun offered a quick nod. "I'm fine—just tired from the day."
Kun seemed satisfied with the answer, but Ten, sitting beside Renjun, gave him a side glance, as though making a mental note to keep an eye on him.
The van rumbled steadily along the highway, the hum of the engine and the chatter of the WayV members creating a lively backdrop to the start of their road trip. Chenle and Hendery were animatedly discussing the best street food in Shanghai, their excitement infectious.
Renjun, however, remained unusually quiet. He leaned against the window, watching the scenery blur past as nausea churned in his stomach. A faint headache throbbed at his temples, and his muscles felt heavy, as though weighed down by an invisible force.
"Renjun, are you okay?" Xiaojun asked from across the aisle.
Renjun forced a smile. "Yeah, just a little tired."
Kun glanced back from the passenger seat, concern flickering in his eyes. "Let us know if you're feeling unwell. We can stop anytime."
Renjun nodded but said nothing. The truth was, he felt awful. His stomach twisted in sharp cramps, and each bump in the road made him feel as though he might be sick. He didn't want to ruin the trip for everyone, especially not when the group was so excited to visit their families.
