It had been a long day.

Gunwook, usually known for his bright energy and enthusiastic spirit, felt as though he had been running on empty for the past few days. Beneath the cheerful façade, though, a dull, aching pain had been building steadily ever since the dental surgery to remove his wisdom teeth that morning. The procedure had gone as expected, but the recovery was proving to be much more painful than he anticipated.

He had kept it to himself. After all, the company had given him no choice but to continue with their packed schedule. He couldn’t afford to disappoint anyone—not the fans, not the staff, and certainly not his members. He had a job to do, and he was determined to do it, even if it meant pushing through pain. His members, all of them, had their own struggles to face in this industry. The last thing Gunwook wanted was to add his own burden to their already heavy load.

The throbbing pain in his jaw was relentless, a constant reminder of his decision to go ahead with the surgery in the first place. It hurt when he tried to eat, when he tried to speak, even when he just sat quietly. The cold compress he carried with him throughout the day helped, but it didn’t make the pain disappear.

Gunwook swallowed hard, trying to keep his face neutral as they made their way to the next schedule. As always, the members chattered with one another, excited for the next stage of the day, but Gunwook could only focus on the ache that seemed to grow with each passing minute.

“Gunwook, are you okay?” Jiwoong asked, glancing back at him as they walked toward the van. His sharp eyes seemed to catch every detail, and Gunwook stiffened, forcing a smile in response.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Gunwook replied, though the words felt like a lie. His voice was quieter than usual, but Jiwoong didn’t seem to notice.

“Good. I was just checking,” Jiwoong said, nodding before turning his attention back to the group.

Gunwook let out a breath of relief. No one seemed to notice. Or if they did, they were kind enough to let it slide. He couldn’t afford to slow down. The company wouldn’t allow it, and his members certainly wouldn’t either. They had enough to deal with without worrying about his dental surgery recovery.

As they piled into the van, Gunwook took a seat at the back, leaning his head against the cool glass of the window. He could feel the warmth of the vehicle, the sounds of chatter and laughter around him, but all he could focus on was the pain in his jaw. He tried to distract himself by zoning out, staring at the passing scenery as the car sped along the road.

By the time they arrived at the venue for their next schedule, Gunwook was starting to feel worse. The swelling in his jaw had only increased, and his lips felt thick and swollen from the anesthesia. He could barely speak without wincing, but he wasn’t about to admit it to anyone. He didn’t want to let his members down.

The team’s next performance was just a few hours away, and Gunwook had to make sure everything went smoothly. He pushed his pain aside and focused on the task at hand. He’d been through much worse before—exhaustion, injuries, even more intense dental work. This would be no different.

They were backstage now, getting ready for the performance. Gunwook stood in front of the mirror, examining himself, trying to make sure nothing looked out of place. He caught sight of his reflection—eyes a little too tired, lips a little too stiff—and quickly adjusted his expression. He didn’t want anyone to see how much he was struggling.

“Gunwook, you’re a little pale,” Hanbin remarked, noticing Gunwook’s face as he walked by.

Gunwook immediately put on his best smile, waving his hand dismissively. “I’m fine. Just tired, that’s all.”
