The bright fluorescent lights of the clinic buzzed faintly as Jisung sat across from the doctor. His heart pounded as the older man adjusted his glasses, flipping through the results of multiple tests.
"You've been experiencing frequent fainting spells, correct?" the doctor asked, his voice calm but probing.
Jisung nodded, his throat dry. "It's been happening for a while. I thought it was just exhaustion."
The doctor sighed, setting the file on his desk. "You have a condition called neurocardiogenic syncope. Essentially, it's a problem with how your body regulates blood pressure and heart rate, especially under stress or fatigue. It's not life-threatening, but it can be dangerous if left unmanaged."
Jisung swallowed hard. "What can I do? I'm in the middle of a tour..."
"You'll need medication, but more importantly, rest, hydration, and managing stress are critical. If you ignore these, the fainting spells could worsen."
Jisung felt a pit form in his stomach. Rest and stress management? In the world of NCT, those were luxuries.
"I'll figure it out," he said softly, though the uncertainty in his voice betrayed him.
The dorm was bustling with activity when Jisung returned. In the living room, Chenle and Yangyang were playing video games, their laughter echoing through the space. Across the room, Taeyong and Kun were in deep discussion over the next day's schedule, while Johnny and Mark reviewed choreography videos.
Jisung slipped in quietly, hoping to avoid drawing attention to himself. But as he settled onto the couch, Renjun's sharp eyes caught his unease.
"Jisung, you okay? You look pale," Renjun said, leaning closer.
"I'm fine," Jisung replied quickly, waving him off.
"You don't look fine," Jaemin interjected from the kitchen, where he was making tea. "What's going on?"
Jisung sighed, realizing he couldn't escape. "It's nothing. The doctor said I might faint sometimes, but it's not serious."
The room went silent. Haechan paused mid-bite of a snack, his eyes narrowing. "Fainting isn't 'nothing,' Jisung. Why didn't you tell us sooner?"
"Because it's not a big deal!" Jisung snapped, the stress of the day bubbling over. "Just don't make this a thing, okay?"
Mark frowned but nodded, sensing Jisung's discomfort. "Alright, but if you feel off, promise you'll tell us."
Jisung mumbled an agreement, retreating to his room.
The next few weeks were a blur of rehearsals, fittings, and meetings. With the massive full-unit concert approaching, every moment was packed. Jisung tried to pace himself, taking short breaks when he could, but the sheer volume of work was unrelenting.
During one particularly intense rehearsal, Taeyong stopped the music and called out, "Jisung, you're a beat behind. Let's run it again."
Jisung nodded, wiping sweat from his brow. His legs felt like lead, but he forced himself to keep going.
By the end of the session, he was barely holding himself up.
"Drink this," Jaemin said, handing him a water bottle.
"Thanks," Jisung muttered, his voice hoarse.
Jaemin frowned. "You're pushing too hard. You should rest."
"I'll be fine," Jisung replied, though his trembling hands told a different story.
The tension came to a head during a group rehearsal that included all 25 members of NCT. The studio buzzed with energy as Taeyong and Kun directed everyone into formations.
