The rhythmic sound of sneakers squeaking against polished wood reverberated through the practice room as the five members of TXT moved in perfect synchronization. The beat of their latest song blasted through the speakers, driving their relentless energy. It was late in the evening, but the group showed no signs of slowing down. The upcoming concert was just days away, and they were determined to perfect every move.
“Again from the top!” Soobin called, clapping his hands. Despite being visibly exhausted, his leader instincts kept him focused.
Beomgyu let out a groan. “I think my legs might actually fall off.”
“Good,” Yeonjun teased, smirking as he adjusted his position. “If your legs fall off, we won’t have to watch you mess up the spin anymore.”
“Harsh, hyung,” Beomgyu shot back with a mock glare, his lips twitching into a grin.
Taehyun rolled his eyes. “Can we not fight like children for once? We’re burning studio time.”
Huening Kai stood toward the back, quietly observing as he wiped sweat from his forehead. He wasn’t as vocal as the others, but his presence was always steady, grounding the team during long, grueling practices. Though he was exhausted, his commitment to the choreography never wavered.
Soobin restarted the music, and the members fell into formation. The room seemed alive with energy as they moved through the choreography, the sound of their synchronized movements blending with the music. The dance was intense, requiring sharp transitions and fast spins. Despite the fatigue settling in, they all pushed through, driven by their shared goal.
During one particular spin, Beomgyu decided to add a flourish, trying to make his move more dynamic. It was instinctual—an attempt to inject some personality into the routine. But his footing slipped on a patch of sweat that hadn’t yet dried, and he lost his balance.
Time seemed to slow as Beomgyu stumbled. His arms flailed in a desperate attempt to steady himself, but gravity won. He fell hard, his knee colliding with the wooden floor with a sickening thud.
“Ahh—!” Beomgyu cried out, gripping his leg as pain radiated through him.
The music stopped abruptly as all eyes turned to him. Yeonjun was the first to react, rushing to Beomgyu’s side. “Beomgyu, are you okay? Talk to me.”
“I’m fine,” Beomgyu said through gritted teeth, trying to wave him off. But when he pulled his hand away from his knee, a deep scrape was revealed, blood oozing from the broken skin.
Soobin crouched down beside him, his brow furrowed in concern. “You’re bleeding,” he stated. His tone was calm but edged with worry. “We need to clean that.”
The sight of the blood sent a jolt through the group, but no one reacted as strongly as Huening Kai. His eyes widened as his chest tightened, and his breathing grew uneven. The metallic scent of blood mixed with the sight of crimson trickling down Beomgyu’s leg triggered something primal in him.
“Kai?” Taehyun’s voice cut through the air as he noticed the youngest swaying slightly. “Are you okay?”
But Huening Kai couldn’t respond. His vision blurred, the edges of his world darkening. The room seemed to tilt, and before anyone could reach him, his legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the floor.
“Kai!” Soobin’s voice was sharp, panic seeping into his usually steady tone as he turned from Beomgyu to their maknae.
