The day started innocuously enough—a few sniffles from Jeonghan and some fatigue from Joshua. No one thought much of it at first. After all, it wasn’t uncommon for the Vocal Team to push themselves a bit too hard during their gruelling practice sessions. But by the time the sun dipped below the horizon, all five members of the Vocal Team—Jeonghan, Joshua, Woozi, DK, and Seungkwan—were down with fevers, sore throats, and splitting headaches.
It wasn’t long before the doctor confirmed their worst fears: it was a highly contagious flu strain. To protect the rest of the group, the Vocal Team was immediately quarantined in their dorm. Mingyu, Minghao, and Jun, who had fewer immediate schedules, volunteered to take care of them. Meanwhile, S.Coups, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Vernon and Dino, moved into separate dorms to avoid exposure, their busy schedules making them unwillingly bow out of caregiving.
“Are you sure about this?” S.Coups had asked, his brows furrowed with worry as he stood in the hallway with Mingyu, Jun, and Minghao.
“We’ve got this, hyung,” Jun said confidently. “You focus on leading the others and keeping things running smoothly. We’ll take care of them.”
“Yeah, don’t worry,” Mingyu chimed in. “We’ll have them back on their feet in no time.”
S.Coups reluctantly nodded, but his expression remained troubled. “Just… be careful, okay?”
Day 1: Entering the Quarantine Zone
Equipped with hazmat suits, gloves, and masks, the three self-appointed caretakers entered the Vocal Team’s dorm like they were walking into a war zone. The atmosphere was heavy with exhaustion and discomfort. Jeonghan was lying on the couch, his head buried under a blanket, while Joshua sat nearby, propped up by pillows but looking no less miserable. Woozi was curled up in a corner, his laptop suspiciously close to him. DK and Seungkwan were in their beds, groaning quietly.
“Alright,” Mingyu announced, clapping his hands. “Operation ‘Heal the Vocal Team’ starts now.”
“Step one: get them to eat something,” Minghao muttered, already heading toward the kitchen.
Jun took charge of organizing the medicine and checking their temperatures. “You all look like death warmed over,” he teased gently, earning a weak glare from Woozi.
“Ha-ha,” Jeonghan deadpanned, his voice muffled.
Jun handed him a thermometer. “You can scold me later. For now, let’s get these fevers down.”
Day 2: The Challenges Begin
By the second day, the full extent of the challenge became clear. Jeonghan and Seungkwan were the most vocal about their discomfort, demanding attention at every turn. Joshua, ever the gentleman, tried not to complain but clearly struggled to even sit up. DK alternated between moments of energy and complete exhaustion, while Woozi... Woozi was determined to work despite being sick.
“Jihoon, put the laptop away,” Jun said for the fifth time that morning.
Woozi didn’t even look up. “Just five more minutes. I need to finish this arrangement.”
Jun sighed and shot a helpless look at Minghao, who shrugged. “Your battle, not mine.”
Jun walked over and gently but firmly closed the laptop. “Rest now, or I’ll hide this thing where you’ll never find it.”
Woozi glared at him but eventually relented, leaning back against the pillows with a defeated sigh.
Meanwhile, Mingyu was in the kitchen, meticulously preparing chicken soup. “It’s gotta have the right balance,” he muttered to himself. “Not too salty, not too bland…”
“Mingyu, you’re talking to yourself again,” Minghao called from the doorway, carrying a tray of empty cups.
“Do you want them to eat cardboard-flavored soup?” Mingyu retorted, not looking up.
Day 4: Midnight Mishaps
Taking shifts had seemed like a good idea at first. Jun stayed with the Vocal Team during the day, while Minghao and Mingyu alternated nights. However, by the fourth night, fatigue was beginning to catch up with them.
Minghao had just settled into the armchair with a book when he heard a faint rustling sound. Looking up, he spotted a shadowy figure creeping toward the kitchen.
“Jihoon-hyung,” Minghao called out, his tone a mix of amusement and exasperation.
Woozi froze mid-step, clutching his laptop. “I wasn’t doing anything.”
“Sure you weren’t,” Minghao said, standing up and gently steering him back toward his bed. “You’re supposed to be resting.”
“But the melody—”
“Can wait,” Minghao interrupted firmly. “Your health comes first.”
Woozi grumbled but didn’t resist, too tired to argue further.
Day 6: Cabin Fever
By the sixth day, the Vocal Team was beginning to grow restless. While their fevers had subsided, the lingering fatigue and weakness kept them bedridden.
“I’m bored,” Seungkwan announced dramatically, flopping onto the couch.
“You’re supposed to be resting,” Jun reminded him, not looking up from the crossword puzzle he was working on.
“I can’t rest when I’m this bored,” Seungkwan whined.
Jeonghan, who was lying on the opposite end of the couch, groaned. “You think you’re bored? Try being stuck in the same room with him all day.”
“Hey!” Seungkwan protested, throwing a pillow at him.
Mingyu walked in just in time to witness the pillow fight. “What’s going on here?”
“Nothing,” Jeonghan and Seungkwan chorused innocently.
Mingyu sighed and set down the tray he was carrying. “Time for lunch. And no, you don’t get to skip it.”
Day 8: A Glimmer of Hope
By the eighth day, the Vocal Team was starting to show signs of improvement. Joshua managed to eat an entire meal without assistance, and Jeonghan even cracked a few jokes. Woozi, much to everyone’s relief, stopped trying to sneak his laptop.
“You’re all doing great,” Mingyu said, smiling as he cleared away the dishes.
“Thanks to you three,” Joshua said softly, his voice still hoarse but filled with gratitude.
Minghao shrugged. “It’s what we’re here for.”
Day 11: Recovery and Gratitude
Finally, after nearly two weeks of quarantine, the doctor declared the Vocal Team fit to rejoin the rest of the group. They gathered in the living room for one last meal together, looking healthier and more energetic than they had in days.
“We can’t thank you enough,” Jeonghan said, his voice sincere. “You really took care of us.”
“You didn’t have to,” Joshua added, his eyes shimmering with gratitude.
Woozi nodded. “You put up with a lot.”
Seungkwan, ever dramatic, wiped an imaginary tear from his eye. “Our heroes.”
Mingyu laughed. “Okay, okay. Enough with the emotional speeches. Just promise us you’ll take better care of yourselves from now on.”
“And maybe listen to us when we tell you to rest,” Minghao added, smirking.
Jun grinned. “But honestly, we’d do it all again if we had to. You’re our family.”
As the Vocal Team reunited with the rest of Seventeen, the bond between them felt stronger than ever. And while none of them ever wanted to go through such an ordeal again, they knew they could face anything as long as they had each other.
