"Theo-hyung, SM must’ve been amazing with how big the company is and the way they train. Why did you move?"
Theo froze mid-motion as Intak’s innocent question echoed in the cozy living room. The members were lounging around after a long day of practice, enjoying their rare downtime together.
"Uh… it wasn’t as amazing as it sounds, Intak," Theo replied, trying to sound casual. His hands betrayed him, though, as he began nervously peeling at the skin around his fingertips.
Keeho, sitting across from him, noticed immediately. He leaned forward, concern flickering across his face. "Are you okay, hyung? You’re acting kind of weird."
Theo forced a laugh, though it came out shaky. "Of course, I’m fine. I mean, SM is great and all, but it just… wasn’t the right fit for me."
"Not the right fit? Come on, Theo-hyung, everyone knows SM is like the dream for trainees," Jiung pressed, his tone light but curious.
"Yeah! Their idols are so polished, and I heard their facilities are incredible," Intak added with wide eyes.
"Not to mention the food! Isn’t there some famous SM trainee cafeteria everyone talks about?" Soul piped up, grinning as he scrolled through pictures of fancy dishes on his phone.
Theo smiled weakly, his hands trembling as he clutched a throw pillow. "Yeah, I guess. But it’s not all it’s cracked up to be," he murmured, his voice barely audible.
Keeho exchanged a glance with Jiung. Something wasn’t right.
"Theo-hyung," Keeho said gently, his tone more serious now. "If something happened back then, you can tell us."
Theo shook his head quickly, his gaze fixed on the pillow in his lap. "It’s nothing, really. Let’s drop it, okay?"
The room fell into an awkward silence. Intak, always perceptive, decided to change the subject. "Anyway, hyungs, what should we eat for dinner? I’m starving!"
The conversation shifted, but Keeho couldn’t stop glancing at Theo, worry etched into his features.
A few days later, during a music show interview, the topic resurfaced.
"Theo-shi, you were in SM before joining FNC, right? Do you regret leaving that trainee life?" the interviewer asked, leaning forward with a curious smile.
The question hit Theo like a punch to the gut. He hesitated, feeling his members’ eyes on him.
"No, not at all," he finally replied, forcing a smile. "Actually, it was better for me to leave."
"Really? Why is that?"
Theo gripped the mic tightly, his palms clammy. "I just think FNC fits my style better," he said with as much confidence as he could muster.
Keeho, sitting beside him, subtly nudged his shoulder, offering silent support.
"That makes sense," the interviewer said, moving on to the next question.
Theo exhaled quietly, relief flooding through him. Keeho’s reassuring hand on his back didn’t go unnoticed.
Later that week, P1Harmony was walking through the backstage halls of a music show when they saw a group of familiar faces ahead: SHINee’s Onew, Key, and Taemin.
The P1Harmony members bowed deeply, murmuring respectful greetings.
As they straightened up, Theo’s eyes locked with Onew’s. His heart raced. He hadn’t seen him in years, but Onew looked just as calm and kind as Theo remembered.
