The sun was just beginning to peek through the curtains of the ASTRO dorm when the first signs of life started stirring. As usual, Eunwoo was the first to wake up. The quiet hum of early morning had always been his time—his moment of peace before the chaos of the day began. As the unofficial “Morning Alarm” of the group, Eunwoo’s mornings were always filled with purpose: making sure the members were awake, organizing their day, and preparing them for whatever lay ahead.
But this morning was different.
Eunwoo didn’t wake up the members.
The room, usually filled with his soft yet cheerful voice calling out, “Hyung, wake up! Time to rise and shine!” was silent. The morning sun slipped past the curtains and bathed the room in a soft glow, but Eunwoo remained unmoving in his bed, his face hidden in the pillow.
Minutes passed, and the silence was deafening.
Jinjin was the first to stir, but only because the usual buzz of his phone had gone unnoticed by his still-sleeping body. He groggily reached out, fumbling for his phone to check the time.
When his eyes widened in disbelief, he shot out of bed. “Guys!” he shouted, his voice laced with panic. “We’re late! It’s almost time for the schedule!”
At the sudden rush of commotion, the members quickly began to wake.
Rocky rubbed his eyes, trying to gather himself, and Moonbin shot up in alarm. But even as they scrambled to get dressed and ready, something felt off. The usually bustling dorm, filled with their usual morning chatter and banter, was still too quiet.
“Where’s Eunwoo-hyung?” Sanha asked, his voice still drowsy, but with the hint of concern.
“Eunwoo?” Jinjin repeated, looking over at his bed. “He’s not even up yet?”
That was when the worry truly set in. It wasn’t like Eunwoo to sleep in.
As they rushed to prepare, the manager entered the room, his expression unusually stern. “Get moving,” he said, his tone clipped. “We’re already running behind. You can’t afford to waste any more time.”
Despite the urgency of the moment, something about the manager’s words didn’t sit right with them. Eunwoo’s absence was odd, especially since he was the one who had always taken it upon himself to make sure everyone else was up. The members, now dressed and frantically running around to grab their things, exchanged confused looks.
“I’ll check on him,” Rocky volunteered, his eyes still wide with concern.
Without waiting for a response, he made his way to Eunwoo’s room, knocking lightly on the door. “Hyung, are you awake?”
There was no answer.
The manager, sensing their hesitation, gave them another push. “Forget it. You don’t have time to check on him. I’ll handle it. Just get in the van. Now.”
The words stung, but the members had no choice but to follow the manager’s orders. They grabbed their bags and quickly left for the van. The whole time, they couldn’t shake the unease that had settled in their stomachs.
Eunwoo stirred faintly as the persistent knocking on his bedroom door grew louder. His head pounded, and every muscle in his body ached, the fever from the night before still gripping him tightly. He groaned, curling deeper into his blankets, desperate for a few more hours of rest.
“Eunwoo, wake up!” The manager’s sharp voice cut through the haze of his exhaustion.
“I don’t feel well,” Eunwoo croaked, his voice barely above a whisper. “I think I need to skip practice today.”
