The atmosphere in the dorm that morning was filled with the usual energy. The members of Seventeen were lounging around, chatting, playing games, and laughing. It was one of the few rare moments when they had time to relax—no rehearsals, no schedules. Just a few hours of downtime before the next round of commitments hit. But even in these moments, S.Coups felt... off.
He tried to keep up with their banter, even joined in with a few laughs here and there, but the noises seemed louder, more irritating. His head felt heavy, as though a weight was pressing down on his thoughts, clouding his mind. He could feel the tension building, a growing agitation that he couldn’t shake off.
It had been building for days now—an increasing irritability, a sharpness in his voice that hadn’t been there before. His patience, normally unshakable, was fraying at the edges. He knew something was wrong, but he couldn’t place what it was. He chalked it up to exhaustion. The constant rehearsals, the travel, the press events—it had all been wearing on him, but he had always been able to handle it before.
That was until Minghao, in his usual carefree way, made a comment about Jeonghan’s latest antics, a teasing remark that sent the group into peals of laughter. It was one of those harmless jokes, one that normally would have had S.Coups chuckling along with the rest of them. But today, everything felt wrong. The noise, the laughter, it felt overwhelming, like it was echoing in his skull.
“Can you all just—” S.Coups’ voice cracked as he interrupted, not realizing how harsh it sounded. “Can you all just be quiet for a minute?” His words came out sharp, laced with an annoyance he didn’t even fully understand himself.
The room fell silent. It was the first time in a long while that S.Coups had spoken like that to his members—let alone snapped at them. The others exchanged confused glances. They were used to his calm, composed nature, the way he always handled their chaos with a steady smile. But this was different.
Minghao blinked, momentarily stunned. “Hyung, I was just joking. It’s nothing serious.” His tone was apologetic, but there was a flicker of hurt in his eyes. He didn’t understand why the playful jab had gotten such a reaction.
S.Coups' mind raced, the irritation mounting as he watched Minghao. He knew he shouldn’t be snapping, but his body felt out of control. His head was pounding now, his pulse quickening in response to the noise, the movement, the sudden shift in energy. He clenched his fists, trying to hold it all together.
“I said be fucking quiet,” he repeated, his voice louder this time, sharp with a bite of frustration. The others froze, feeling the sting in his tone.
Minghao flinched, his face dropping into an expression of confusion and hurt. He had never seen S.Coups like this before. He swallowed hard, suddenly feeling very small in the space. Without saying anything else, he quickly stood up, ran to his room and grabbed a bag, and began shoving clothes and personal items into it, his hands trembling as he worked.
“Where are you going?” Jun asked, after he had walked into the room.
“I’m going to stay with Jaehyun and WinWin at the NCT dorms,” Minghao said quietly in chinese, his voice betraying the emotions he was struggling to suppress. “Please don’t tell them where I am. Just... just say that I’m safe.”
Jun’s eyes softened, his expression understanding. “Okay, I won’t tell them. I’ll tell them you’re safe, Minghao. Take care of yourself.”
Minghao nodded, the tension in his body palpable. As he turned to leave, the other members looked between S.Coups and Minghao, unsure of how to react. They had never seen their leader snap at any of them like this, let alone Minghao, who was usually the quiet one, the one who kept to himself when it came to confrontation.
