The night had begun with a contagious energy of excitement and playful teasing. The members of Treasure were in high spirits as they made their way to the renowned horror house attraction, a much-anticipated break from their grueling schedule. Haruto, known for his calm and collected demeanor, had been the center of jokes throughout the evening.
"Bet you'll be the first one to scream," Junkyu teased, grinning from ear to ear.
Haruto laughed it off with an air of confidence. "I don't get scared that easily," he retorted, his voice steady. But as they approached the attraction's ominous gates, his laughter faltered. The flickering neon sign above the entrance and the eerie background music struck a chord of unease. Shadows danced in the dim light, and Haruto's usually firm stance shifted slightly as he glanced toward the haunted entrance.
"Scared already?" Jihoon teased, nudging him playfully.
"Of course not," Haruto replied quickly, though Asahi, walking beside him, noticed the tight grip Haruto had on the straps of his bag.
As the group entered, the atmosphere inside was suffocating. The musty scent of damp wood and the faint metallic tang of artificial blood clung to the air. Distant screams echoed through the maze, blending with unsettling whispers from hidden speakers. Haruto stayed close to Asahi, his shoulders rigid.
"You good?" Asahi asked softly, his voice barely audible over the ambiance.
Haruto nodded, but his silence spoke volumes. He was no stranger to nerves, but this felt different. The weight of the building dread settled over him like a suffocating blanket.
The first scare came quickly. A grotesque figure burst from a hidden panel in the wall, letting out a guttural scream. Haruto's entire body jolted, his breath catching as his heartbeat skyrocketed. The laughter of the other members barely registered as he tried to steady his breathing.
"Relax, Haruto," Jihoon said with a grin. "It's all fake."
But it didn't feel fake to Haruto. Each corner seemed to harbor a new threat, and the actors' targeting of him felt deliberate. Their makeup was disturbingly realistic—bloodied ghouls with blank eyes, unhinged clowns with wide, sinister grins. Haruto's unease deepened as they ventured further into the maze.
In one particularly harrowing moment, the group entered a pitch-black room. The air was still, save for their own breathing. Then, a strobe light flickered, illuminating a figure crawling unnaturally fast across the floor. Its twisted limbs and eerie silence were more horrifying than any scream could be. Haruto froze, unable to tear his gaze away from the creature's lifeless eyes.
"Haruto, move!" Yoshi called, grabbing his arm and pulling him forward.
Haruto stumbled, his breath coming in shallow gasps. His usual composure was completely shattered. Every instinct screamed at him to run, but the maze offered no reprieve. Each scare blended into the next, and Haruto felt trapped in a relentless cycle of terror.
When they finally exited the horror house, the other members burst into laughter, sharing stories of their favorite scares. Haruto, however, remained silent, his face pale. Asahi noticed the way Haruto's hands trembled as they clutched his jacket.
"It's over now," Asahi said gently, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
Haruto nodded, but the scenes from the maze replayed in his mind with vivid clarity. Every sound, every image felt burned into his psyche. By the time they returned to the dorms, he was utterly drained. Mumbling a quick goodnight, he collapsed onto his bed without even changing out of his clothes.
The next morning, the dorm was unusually quiet. Hyunsuk, the leader, was the first to notice Haruto's absence. "He's usually the last to get up, but this is late, even for him," he remarked, glancing at the clock.
Jihoon frowned, a hint of concern creeping into his expression. "Maybe he's just catching up on sleep. Yesterday was intense."
Junghwan chimed in, "He didn't look great last night, though."
Hyunsuk nodded. "Let's give him a bit more time. If he doesn't wake up by lunch, we'll check on him."
As hours passed, the unease among the members grew. By lunchtime, Jihoon and Asahi decided to check on Haruto. Opening his door, they found him still in bed, his face flushed and his breathing shallow.
"Haruto," Jihoon called softly, shaking his shoulder. "Wake up, buddy."
There was no response. Asahi crouched beside the bed, brushing Haruto's hair back to check his temperature. His usually calm demeanor cracked as worry etched itself onto his face. "He's burning up," he said quietly.
Hyunsuk joined them moments later, his leadership instincts kicking in. "He might just be exhausted. Let's give him a few more hours. If he doesn't wake up by then, we'll call the doctor."
Six hours later, the dorm was tense. The members tried to distract themselves with chores and light conversations, but the worry was palpable. Hyunsuk and Jihoon, unable to sit still, paced the living room while Junkyu and Yoshi checked on Haruto periodically. When the six-hour mark passed with no change, Hyunsuk made the call.
"Jihoon, let's try waking him again," Hyunsuk said, his tone firm but tinged with anxiety.
Entering Haruto's room, they tried shaking him gently. "Haruto, wake up," Jihoon urged, his voice firmer this time. Haruto stirred faintly, his eyelids fluttering open for a moment before closing again. He mumbled something incoherent and fell back into deep sleep.
Hyunsuk didn't hesitate. "Call the doctor."
The team doctor arrived quickly, his presence a source of relief for the members. After examining Haruto and listening to the recount of the previous night, he finally spoke.
"Haruto's experiencing extreme emotional exhaustion," the doctor explained. "His body shut down to recover from the stress. It's not unusual for someone to sleep for extended periods after such intense fear. His vital signs are stable, which is reassuring."
The relief in the room was immediate, though it didn't completely ease the guilt some of them felt.
"I should've noticed he wasn't handling it well," Jihoon said, his fists clenched.
"You're not to blame," Asahi said softly, though his own voice wavered. "Haruto doesn't show when he's struggling."
Hyunsuk placed a comforting hand on Jihoon's shoulder. "What matters now is that he's safe. We'll be here when he wakes up."
Late in the evening, Haruto finally stirred. His movements were sluggish, and his eyes blinked open slowly. The first thing he saw was Asahi sitting beside him, his face soft with relief.
"You're awake," Asahi said, his voice gentle. "How are you feeling?"
Haruto blinked, his mind foggy. "Tired," he murmured, his throat dry. "What... happened?"
Jihoon stepped into view, his smile faint but warm. "You've been asleep for nearly a day. You scared us."
As the rest of the members crowded into the room, Haruto's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Sorry," he mumbled. "I didn't mean to—"
"You don't need to apologize," Hyunsuk interrupted firmly. "Your body needed rest."
Over the next few days, the members ensured Haruto was comfortable and didn't push himself too hard. Asahi was a constant presence, offering quiet support, while Jihoon and Hyunsuk made sure Haruto knew he wasn't alone.
One evening, as they sat in the living room, Jihoon spoke up. "You're not weak for being scared, Haruto. Everyone has moments like this."
Haruto nodded, a small smile finally breaking through the lingering exhaustion. "Thanks, hyung."
The incident became a turning point for the group, deepening their bond. For Haruto, it was a lesson in trust—knowing he could lean on his members when he needed them most.
