The cool Toronto air was crisp, the city streets bustling with energy as fans eagerly gathered outside for the highly anticipated fan event. The Boyz had arrived the day before, excited for a meet-and-greet with their Canadian fans. Jacob stood in the lobby of the hotel, checking his phone for the details of the event while his members chattered around him. Despite the excitement in the air, something inside Jacob felt a little off—a feeling he couldn't quite place.
"Jacob-hyung, let's go! We're going to be late!" Kevin called, pulling him out of his thoughts.
Jacob looked up with a small smile and nodded, slipping his phone into his pocket and following his members out into the bustling streets of Toronto. The fan event was a highlight of their tour, and the energy was infectious. Fans screamed with joy when they saw their idols, their faces lighting up with admiration. The boys waved back, grateful for the support and warmth they'd received since arriving in Canada. Everything felt like it was going according to plan. Yet, in the back of Jacob's mind, a sense of unease lingered, one that he couldn't shake.
The event itself went smoothly, with each member enjoying their time with the fans. Jacob found himself smiling and laughing, posing for photos and answering questions. But there were moments when he felt... distant, like he wasn't truly there. His thoughts would drift, and an unsettling feeling would creep over him, reminding him of a time before everything changed—before The Boyz, before his dream seemed so real.
After the event, the group gathered for some downtime at the hotel. Jacob excused himself, needing some space to clear his mind. He stepped outside into the cold evening air, breathing in deeply as he walked down the street, seeking solitude.
He was so absorbed in his thoughts that he almost didn't notice the figure approaching from the opposite direction.
"Jacob?"
The familiar voice froze him in place. His heart skipped a beat as he looked up, eyes wide in disbelief. Standing in front of him was a face he hadn't seen in years—a face he had nearly forgotten.
"Lucas?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
His smile was warm, but there was a tinge of sadness in his eyes. "It's really you. Wow... I didn't expect to run into you here."
Jacob's mind was racing. Lucas was an old friend, someone he had known from his pre-debut days. They had met when he was still a trainee, back when his passion for dance was still in its fragile infancy. He was one of the few people who had seen him struggle, seen him nearly give up on his dream.
"You're in Toronto for a fan event?" Lucas asked, looking at him curiously. "That's amazing. I'm so proud of you."
Jacob nodded absently, still processing the unexpected reunion. "Yeah, I'm here with my group, The Boyz. We're performing and meeting with fans."
Lucas' eyes softened, his expression turning a little more serious. "I remember when you almost gave up. It was such a tough time for you."
The words hit him like a ton of bricks. The memory surged forward, uninvited. He had been in the thick of self-doubt back then, unsure if he could make it as a dancer. His confidence had been shattered after a string of failures during his trainee days. He had questioned whether he was good enough, wondering if he should just quit and move on with his life. Lucas had been there during those dark moments, offering him comfort when he needed it most. It was a time he had buried deep within himself, convinced he had moved past it.
But now, hearing Lucas' words, that familiar wave of doubt began to crash over him again. Was he really good enough? Was he truly deserving of his place in The Boyz?
