It was a rare day off for Sunoo and Sunghoon. With the other members tied up with schedules, and Jay catching up on much-needed sleep back at the dorm, the two decided to enjoy a quiet shopping trip.

“You’re so indecisive,” Sunghoon teased as Sunoo held up a cardigan in one hand and a hoodie in the other, frowning at both.

“This is serious business,” Sunoo retorted with mock indignation. “You don’t just pick a sweater—it has to speak to you.”

Sunghoon chuckled, shaking his head. “I think you’re overthinking it. We’re supposed to be relaxing, remember?”

The playful banter came to a jarring halt as the ground beneath them trembled violently. Sunghoon instinctively grabbed Sunoo’s arm, steadying him as racks of clothing swayed and a loud rumble filled the air.

“Is this…?” Sunoo’s voice wavered.

“Earthquake!” Sunghoon shouted, scanning the store for an exit. “We need to get out—now!”

The tremors intensified, sending glass displays shattering to the floor. The lights flickered ominously as the ceiling above them groaned under the strain. Panicked shoppers screamed, some dropping to the floor while others scrambled for the exits.

Sunghoon tightened his grip on Sunoo’s wrist and pulled him toward the emergency stairs. “Stay close!” he yelled over the chaos.

They didn’t make it far before a deafening crack echoed through the air. The ceiling above them buckled, chunks of debris raining down. Sunghoon turned just in time to push Sunoo toward a support beam, shielding him as concrete and metal fell around them.

“Sunghoon-hyung!” Sunoo cried, reaching out as Sunghoon was knocked to the ground by a massive piece of debris. His legs were pinned beneath the weight, and blood trickled down his forehead from a deep gash.

“I’m okay!” Sunghoon groaned, his voice strained. “Are you hurt?”

Sunoo shook his head, panic in his eyes. Before he could respond, another tremor hit, sending a steel beam crashing into his shoulder and pinning him against the wall. He screamed as pain shot through his body, his arm dislocated and his leg trapped beneath the debris.

The mall fell silent as the dust settled. Both boys lay trapped, their bodies battered and broken.

Time passed in agonizing stillness. Sunoo’s vision blurred as pain and exhaustion threatened to pull him under. Blood seeped from numerous cuts on his arms and face, and his breathing was shallow. Every movement sent waves of agony through his injured shoulder and leg.

“Hyung?” he called weakly, his voice barely audible.

Sunghoon didn’t respond. He lay motionless under the rubble, his face pale and his chest rising unevenly.

“Sunghoon-hyung, please,” Sunoo whispered, tears streaming down his face. The sight of his friend so still filled him with a terror that outweighed his own pain.

Summoning what little strength he had, Sunoo reached out with his uninjured arm, his fingers brushing against Sunghoon’s hand. The faint contact was enough to keep him conscious, though the effort left him trembling.

“You’re going to be okay,” Sunoo murmured, his voice shaking. “We’ll get out of this. Just… just hold on.”

Back at the dorm, Jay woke to the sound of breaking news on the television. He froze as the words "7.0 magnitude earthquake" and "citywide devastation" flashed across the screen.

The footage showed the mall where Sunoo and Sunghoon had gone earlier, now reduced to rubble. Jay’s blood ran cold.

Grabbing his phone, he called Sunoo and then Sunghoon, but neither answered. Panic gripped him as he alerted the company. Within minutes, a rescue team was dispatched to the mall, and Jay insisted on joining them.

The scene at the mall was chaotic. Emergency workers sifted through the rubble, their faces grim as they searched for survivors. Jay shouted their names, his voice hoarse.

“Sunoo! Sunghoon! Can you hear me?”

Beneath the rubble, Sunoo’s fading consciousness flickered at the sound of distant voices. He tried to call out, but his throat was too dry, and his voice barely rose above a whisper.

“Here…” he croaked, though he doubted anyone could hear him.

A rescue worker caught the faint sound and signaled to his team. They began clearing the debris, uncovering Sunoo first.

Jay rushed forward as soon as he saw Sunoo’s bloodied face. “Sunoo!” he cried, his heart breaking at the sight.

Sunoo’s lips moved, but no sound came out. His gaze shifted to Sunghoon, and he weakly pointed. “Sunghoon… help him,” he managed to whisper.

The rescuers worked quickly to free Sunghoon, who remained unconscious. His injuries were severe—broken ribs, a fractured leg, and internal bleeding that required immediate attention.

As Sunoo was loaded onto a stretcher, he clutched Jay’s hand weakly. “Don’t leave him,” he whispered before succumbing to exhaustion.

Sunoo and Sunghoon were rushed to the hospital, where doctors immediately began treating their injuries. Sunoo’s shoulder was dislocated, and his leg was fractured in multiple places. He also suffered from severe bruising and dehydration.

Sunghoon’s condition was critical. In addition to his broken ribs and fractured leg, he had a punctured lung and required emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding.

The remaining members of ENHYPEN gathered at the hospital, their faces pale with worry. Heeseung paced the waiting room, while Jungwon sat with his head in his hands. Ni-ki clung to Jake, his eyes red from crying.

When Sunoo woke up, his first words were a weak, “Sunghoon… is he okay?”

Jay, who had been sitting by his bedside, placed a comforting hand on his arm. “He’s out of surgery. He’s stable, but he’s still unconscious.”

Tears streamed down Sunoo’s face as relief mixed with guilt. “It’s my fault,” he murmured. “I should’ve done more.”

Jay shook his head. “You did everything you could. You stayed strong for him. That’s what matters.”

Sunoo was discharged after a few weeks, but his injuries made even simple tasks difficult. He hated relying on the other members for help, and the frustration began to take a toll on his usually cheerful demeanor.

“I’m supposed to be the one cheering everyone up,” he confided to Jake one evening. “Now I’m just a burden.”

Jake frowned. “You’re not a burden, Sunoo. You’ve been through something traumatic. It’s okay to lean on us—we’re family.”

Meanwhile, Sunghoon faced a long road to recovery. His injuries required extensive physiotherapy, and the process was slow and painful. He often grew frustrated with his limitations, but the support of his members—and especially Sunoo—kept him going.

Despite his own struggles, Sunoo insisted on accompanying Sunghoon to every physiotherapy session. “If you’re doing this, so am I,” he declared, his determination unwavering.

The other members took turns joining them, offering encouragement and support. Ni-ki often brought snacks, while Heeseung cheered them on with his usual enthusiasm.

Months later, both Sunoo and Sunghoon had made significant progress. Though they still bore scars from the ordeal, they found strength in their shared experience and the unwavering support of their group.

One evening, as they sat together in the dorm, Sunghoon turned to Sunoo. “I wouldn’t have made it without you,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.

Sunoo smiled, his eyes glistening. “We got through it together. That’s what matters.”

In the aftermath of the earthquake, their bond—and the bond of their group—had grown stronger than ever. Through pain and adversity, they had found resilience and hope, emerging as a family united by love and trust.
