My dad being home could signify one of two things. First, he's home for my checkup, as he mentioned, which involves installing my new eye cameras and checking my vitals — similar to a doctor's appointment. Second, if he's here, it means Mom can't be far behind. I'm just hoping she doesn't bring up anything.
Right. Wishful thinking. I have my mom's gene pool. I'm an asshole, but my mom is a whole level of asshole and bitchery. I'm certain she has an armada of shit she wants to say to me. I know she's coming for Thanksgiving or Christmas. My parents always come on a holiday to see how I'm doing. If Dad is present, it means Mom will be making an appearance soon.
And I'm not looking forward to it.
I needed to upgrade my prosthetics. It would really help if my aunt – the one who made them – would return my calls. I definitely can't ask my father to look at them. This left me with only one person to ask for help.
Donatello.
Ever since meeting him, Donnie's been interested in my prosthetics (not to mention my motorcycle). As crazy as he is, the soft-shell turtle knows his shit. If I send my metal limbs to crazy purple turtle, I must set some ground rules. Also, I can't have Donnie come over to my place with my dad visiting. Who's to say how long my old man is staying?
My father loves his computer more than human beings. If you ever needed him, his full attention would be on his computer, whatever computer he was on. He's more vampire than I am; at least I have the decency to get out of my room. He spends night and day typing away on the keyboard. As long as we're not in the same room, we can go about our day without interaction.
Which means... I can go about my day. Or rather, go about my night.
Which means... It's the perfect chance to go to Leo's home. The upside is that I get to see my cute boyfriend again after our night out.
The downside... I'll have the displeasure of seeing Leo's dad again. I could deal with that rat fucker for an hour without any collision. I need a month to recuperate before going for round two.
Okay. That last part was a bit exaggerated, but dealing with Splinter is like dealing with the World's Tiniest Thorn in your ass cheek; it's a fucking nuisance. He is my boyfriend's dad. When Lee and I do tie the knot, Splinter will be my father-in-law; or rather, my rat-in-law.
I didn't want to go to the sewers alone. I could call the girls or...
I left a note on the fridge indicating that I'd be at a friend's place. After that, I texted Alex to get ready.
Within the hour, Alex and I walked into the turtles' home carrying our shit. I brought my spare prosthetics in a duffle bag while Alex was carrying a wheeled suitcase. I didn't bother asking them; they probably wanted Leo to model for them or something.
"Thanks for coming with me, Alex. I really needed the backup", I thanked them.
"No worries, Merry Berry. I wanted to see Raphael, anyway, and since you called me to join you, well, it was serendipitous." I quirked my eyebrow. I knew they and Raph were getting close, but I didn't think they were getting serious. Maybe I'm overthinking it.
"Thanks anyway, though. I can't deal with you-know-who."
Alex stopped. "Voldemort?"
I gave them a look. "Worse."
"Who's worse than Voldemort?"
"Alex!" the familiar voice made my eyes roll.
I softly groaned. "Speak of the furry devil."
"Be nice", Alex whispered before greeting the old rat. "Splinter! You look amazing! Did you lose weight?"
Splinter chuckled as he stroked his beard. "I lay off the cakes and downgraded to cupcakes."
