"Let me get this straight. Those strange men with their heads on fire are searching for metal pieces to restore a mystic armor from Feudal Japan, which Merrill, you're first boyfriend, has a high intolerance to its dark properties. Also, you can sense it as well, but not as intensely as your boyfriend. I'm still grasping on the whole boyfriend thing." We were making our way to the Egyptian exhibit as fast as possible. Our friends were walking behind us in case we lost our balance. I was explaining to them about the metal pieces and how we need to hustle to get to Merrill. I was also coming out to my brothers on my "update" on my relationship. Not how I plan to tell them. Not the time or place to reintroduce him.
"So not important right now, Dee", I told my twin.
"You've only known each other for two months, and you're already holding hands and swapping saliva. Did you get tested? Did he get tested? Did you get his parents' approval? Or our dear papa?"
"Oh, my God! Not now!" I expected Raph interrogating me, but Donnie? What was his beef?
"The important thing is that they're in love and they're committed!" Mikey, my sweet and supportive brother, encouraged me.
"Love?! Nonononono! Leo's too young for that!" Raph objected. "You shouldn't be dating. Period! Look, I was going to let it slide with you and Goth Boy "getting along" and not doing "the nasty", but you two...! I have no words! I knew I should've kept a closer eye on you, Leo! You two are always up to something, especially when you sneak off to see him! That's right! I know all about it! Don't try to deny it!" All I did was roll my eyes. I already knew Raph wasn't on board. I was going to wait for another one for my brothers to warm up to Merrill. Mikey was already on the ship before we set sail! Donnie was accepting... in his own Donnie-way; maybe because Merrill is like part robot, and my brother wants to know what makes his prosthetics tick... or maybe if he pleads his case, Merrill might let him ride his motorcycle. Whatever the case, my twin has his motives.
As for Raphael, my big brother and leader of our little hero group, he was slowly – VERY slowly – accepting Merrill into our family. I was going to lead with that. Have Raph and Merrill spend some time together. Get to know each other. Maybe a few sparring sessions, and they'll give each other fighting tips (mostly on Merrill giving some advice).
Then, work with my dad... which is like opening the Cat in the Hat's big red box; you don't know what's in there after you open it. I was hoping to settle with my brothers until it was the right time for Dad to feel... "comfortable" with my new boyfriend. With some angry groans and a few damaged goods, they'll be best buddies probably before the new year.
... or after a few more years... or at least Merrill handles calling his aunt. I aggressively shook my head. Don't think like that, Leon.
"Didn't you say Merrill's in trouble? We should hold off this "delightful" conversation and pick up the pace", Katie said from behind. I already pictured my friends being nonchalant about my brothers' reactions. I mean, they already know about it, so they aren't surprised.
"Don't get me started on you three!" Raph's sudden jolt nearly toppled the entire ball over. "Why didn't you say anything?! I thought we were all friends!?"
"Raphael, darling, the giant apple of my eye! The holder of my heart! It pains me to see you like this!" Alex went ahead to meet Raph in the eye. "I knew it wasn't right, but this was Leeny Beany's secret. It would be disrespectful to tell you."
