Rachel grinned at Nyx as she came down the stairs. She set the bowl of batter down on the table before turning to her daughter. "You alright?"
"Yup."
"You going out?"
"Yup."
"Where are you going?"
"Out."Rachel breathed a sigh. "Little bird, I think we need to have a chat."
Nyx walked into the kitchen, a mild expression on her face. "Okay. What about?"
Rachel smiled warmly. "Is everything alright?"
"Yes."
"It's just you seem a little stressed."
"Life is stressful."
Rachel placed her hands flat on the table. "Yes, I know. It's just... I want to help. Whatever's stressing you out, I want to help. So, if you need to tell me anything, you can."Nyx chewed her lip thoughtfully. "Well... there is some stuff, but I don't think I'm ready to tell you yet."
Rachel shrugged, though internally she was beginning to worry about Nyx. In all her years of being a parent, she had discovered that the worst issues were the ones they refused to talk about. But she also knew she couldn't force it out of her, not if Nyx didn't feel ready to tell her. "If that's what you want, sweetheart. But don't let it take over your life. I am here for you."Nyx wrapped her arms around Rachel, pulling her into a hug. "I love you, mum."
Rachel stroked her hair lovingly. "I love you too, little bird. I love you so much. Hey, are you going to take Abby to the park today?"
"Maybe later."
"So, just for my peace of mind, where roughly are you going?"Nyx shrugged. "I don't know. Wherever I feel like."
"Okay, don't get lost."
"When have I ever?"Walking out of the door, Nyx couldn't help but smile.
