Gone

She was gone.
He couldn't believe it. Evelyn Mater had managed to slip through everyone's fingers and disappear.

Sebastian was more than angry. Not only because of this, but because Lilith was getting on his nerves.
She wouldn't let him be in charge. That's what it was. They both wanted to be the leader.

Once she'd discovered the  'message' he'd left for the Shadowhunter's, she'd practically lost it, screaming at him about how reckless it had been, how he was jeopardising 'her' plans.

So he'd just walked out.

She hadn't quite got it yet. He didn't need her.

But now Evelyn had escaped, and it was his turn to loose it.

"Where the hell could she go?!"
He yelled at some unfortunate faeries who'd supposed to have been watching her.
They cowered before him, stating that they didn't know.
Storming off down the hall, he scowled darkly. If you wanted something done right, you had to do it yourself.
And there was going to be hell to pay when he found her.

Evelyn walked around her laboratory, feeling extremely relieved to be out of the watchful eye of whoever had been assigned to watch her today.

No one could enter the laboratory without her permission, it was specifically designed so only she could open the door.
She couldn't stay here forever, that was for sure.
But she didn't have to. There was an exit passage that took her right to the edge of the property. From here, she could come and go as she pleased.

Looking around the lab, she could see all her life's work, trying to dissect the secrets of the universe, trying to fill the gaps in the knowledge of the Shadow world.
It all seemed a little pointless now.

A distraction from what really mattered.

As soon as she got out, she knew what she was going to do.

She was going to find her daughter.
