Scary thoughts

Well, who knew being rescued was such a lengthy process?

Currently, it involved Julianna having a hurried whispered discussion with Maddie's parents, and Nyx just knew that despite all her hopes and efforts, the Clave were two minutes away from being told about Alysha.

And there was nothing she could do about it.
It was a scary thought.

The other scary thought? She actually didn't care that much anymore. Anything to get away from this place. She could deal with the rest later.

Besides, if they could get Alysha under any semblance of control, she'd take back every snarky comment she'd ever said, every time she'd implied they needed to 'remove their heads from their asses and take a look at the real world', and become their most loyal supporter, singing their praises through the streets.

Okay, maybe not quite that far, but she'd be grateful. In fact, it didn't even have to be the Clave. Just anyone who could solve this madness.

"What, you don't love me anymore?"
"After this stunt? Take a guess."
"I have... reasons. You don't trust me enough."
"I don't trust you at all."

Nyx could feel the waves of anger flowing from the little dark corner of her mind where Alysha lived. And that's where it was going to stay, in Alysha's corner. These were Alysha's feelings, not hers. Keeping the divide between them was the only way Nyx could hang onto her thin threads of sanity.
Her thin threads of self.

"Look, do you know what they're going to do to us? It's not going to be good."
"Shuddup."
"Let's just leave. We can go home, fine. But please, I don't want to get involved with them. Just walk, come on. They're not even paying attention."
"Shut up! I'm tired! I can't... Shut up!"
