Understanding

"I don't understand." Evelyn whispered to Magnus, as they watched a sleeping Nyx through the half-open door. "I mean, I thought I did, but I just don't. "

"You've got a better chance then me of understanding." Shrugged Magnus. "Short of getting a psychologist, I've got nothing."

"Thing is, it's not all psychological, at least, I don't think. Alysha's... so different."

"Kind of what happens with multiple personalities."

Evelyn shook her head. "No, that's not it. She's physically different. It's subtle, but it's there. She moves different, like... and I know you're just going to put this down to the psychological thing, but hear me out. There's a difference between your posture reflecting your emotions, and moving because you're unsure of your body. It's like a tiger waking up to discover it's in the body of a kitten. You watch, next time Alysha returns. She's... She's to careful. Every movement is calculated, almost forced to be normal."

Magnus raised an eyebrow at her. "I hear what your saying, but I don't get what you're saying."
Evelyn scrubbed at her temples. "I'm not making it up. I am onto something. I learnt to look for signs like that when I was younger, still in training. Can't quite remember why, I barely ever used it. It was... It was... oh fuck."
"What was it?"
"A very, very rudimentary way of looking for changlings and demon possession." She nibbled her lip nervously, similar to how Nyx did. "Can we go back to talking about the psychological options? I think I liked that path better."

Magnus groaned. "That's all we need. A demonic Nyx. But why the name Alysha?"
Evelyn gave him a hard look. "I liked the name Alysha. That's what I was going to call Nyx. It's a bit ironic though. Nyx means 'goddess of the night', whilst Alysha means 'protected by God'."
